IT related companies in DAFZA increase by 20 per cent

Executives with the Dubai Airport Free Zone Authority (DAFZA) today announced at GITEX 2003 the successful completion of the free zone's third-phase of development, and commencement of a fourth-phase, a significant milestone and a sign of continuing progress on the authority's part to add to its growing list of global IT clients.

The third-phase - which already has a 70% occupancy rate, with 100% occupancy expected by the first quarter of 2004 - consists of approximately 21,000 square meters of office space, and 28 light industrial units (LIUs).48 additional warehouses are in the process of construction.

'DAFZA is using GITEX 2003, the Middle East's largest IT trade show, as a platform to communicate to the IT industry about the unique investment opportunities that DAFZA has to offer,' said Shahla Abdul Razak, Director -Sales and Marketing, DAFZA.

'The percentage of companies from the computer, IT, and telecommunications sectors in DAFZA increased by 20%, in comparison to last year, we expect these sectors to continue to grow.'

'These global communications companies typically trade in low volume, high value products such as electronics, computer hardware, telecommunications and other IT related products that are fast moving and their operations are mainly based on a 'just -in-time' system. In this respect DAFZA provides tremendous added value to their business ranging from speedy logistics, excellent air cargo networking and efficient handling through the Free Zone Logistics Centre. Our e-administration services and online customs procedures make our facilities even more attractive,' she elaborated.
