VoEx International launches GlobalNet mobile phone service in Iraq
- Iraq: Wednesday, January 07 - 2004 at 09:45
- PRESS RELEASE
VoEx International LLC, a leading provider of worldwide high-quality telephony services, announced today that it has signed an agreement with GlobalNet Corporation (OTCBB: GLBT - News) to distribute satellite mobile phones and SIM cards powered by Globalstar network.
The partnership between VoEx and GlobalNet and Globalstar will result in the immediate delivery of economical and superior handheld mobile telecommunications to Iraq and the rest of the Middle East. VoEx will market the advanced GSM/SAT hand sets and related options under the brand name "Shehab" and will distribute through a network of shops and kiosks situated throughout Iraq. For the time being, all calls will be made on a prepaid basis because of the general fiscal disarray of the region. This arrangement is expected to change after one of the proposed GSM cellular networks is finally completed and the country continues to grow in economic strength.
Haydar Haba, Chief Executive Officer of VoEx International LLC and VoEx Inc., stated, "We are extremely excited about this partnership. It provides GlobalNet with a means of further distribution and exposure for their product, while advancing VoEx's position as a premiere provider of worldwide telecommunications services. We look forward to what we feel will be a truly valuable endeavor, not only for both companies involved, but for the Iraqi people, as well." For the past fourteen years, Mr. Haba has been among the top telecom engineers and innovators of Telecom and VoIP technology, delivering advanced communications services to many third world countries.
"Throughout the year 2003, we have been working very diligently to fill the gap created by the lack of advanced communication tools in Iraq and to lessen the effects of Iraq's digital divide," added Asaad Y. Alnajjar, Chief Strategy Officer of VoEx International LLC and VoEx Inc. "We are trying very hard to serve the needs of the Iraqi people per our ongoing design-build planning. Once there are clear regulations in Iraq and much of the red tape has been removed, VoEx will promptly deliver many advanced technologies and services that will distinguish Iraq as the technology leader of the Arab world." Mr. Alnajjar is among the most active businessmen in Iraq and has been especially involved the past three years in issues related to the Iraqi GSM industry and MENA communications private sector. He is one of the top telecom innovators in the Middle East.
In related news, VoEx International LLC, under a sub-agreement signed last month with Orascom Telecom Iraq (OTI), will soon offer "Iraqna" prepaid GSM SIMs, services and handsets to the public in central Iraq.
