MEED to hold Iraq reconstruction conference

A two-day MEED conference focusing on economic and political reconstruction in Iraq is to be held at the Mina Salam Hotel in Dubai on 2-3 March 2004.
Iraq: Focusing on the Future is being supported by the Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI). A welcome address to delegates will be delivered by Abdul Rahman Ganem al-Mutaiwee, DCCI director general.
Speakers will include representatives of the Iraqi Governing Council and leading figures from the Coalition Provisional Authority (CPA). These include CPA Director of Operations, Andy Bearpark and Director of the Iraq Infrastructure Programme, Tom Wheelock, a representative of USAID. Judge Wael Abdulatif al-Fadel, Elected Governor of Basra and a Member of the Iraqi Governing Council, has also accepted an invitation to deliver a keynote address at the event.
The conference will focus on key economic and business developments including the rehabilitation of the oil and gas industry, the expansion of the electricity and water sector and restoring the Iraqi port system. A presentation will be given about work on the Iraqi fixed line system and a panel session will be held about progress in the banking system.
Speakers from a variety of specialist groups will consider the practical issues facing those doing business in Iraq including insurance, the legal system, security and risk management. Ways of promoting the employment of Iraqis will be explored in a session devoted to human resource development.
