Samsung strengthens leadership position in the regional mobile phone market

Samsung Electronics, the world leader in digital technology, has further strengthened its leadership position in the region's mobile phone market with the release of 2 new mobile phones.

Samsung today unveiled the world's smallest camera phones, SGH-E600, and SGH-E310, which in addition to a built-in super-VGA camera, features a photo caller ID function enabling mobile enthusiasts to assign pictures to numbers in the phone book.

Speaking at the press conference, Mr. J. H. Park, President, Samsung Gulf Electronics (SGE) said, 'Samsung is set to continue its successful inroads into the regional mobile market with a range of new products that include the latest in cutting-edge technology. By pushing the boundaries of mobile technology, Samsung has created an unprecedented brand position for its products, reiterating its leadership as a mobile phone manufacturer in the region.'

Recent figures made available by leading European research group, GfK, put Samsung in leading positions, in terms of mobile phone sales, with an estimated growth of over 35 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2004 in UAE, GCC and Paksitan

'Camera phones will augment sales as they carry the most favoured features. The super-VGA camera that Samsung has embedded in its phone, is of the highest quality available in the region,' Mr. Park added.

'Our research showed that customers wanted a phone that reflected their personality: elegant and stylish, yet equally modern and boasting the latest technology. This gave birth to E-600 mobile phones. Innovation based on customer feedback is key to our growth worldwide,' said Mr. Steve Han, Senior Manager-Telecommunications, Samsung Gulf Electronics (SGE).

Encased in a small and sophisticated form, the SGH-E600 mobile phone boasts of a super-fine VGA camera providing enhanced digital features like: multi shot, matrix shot, night shot and easy self portrait. The M-JPEG with sound program, allows users to record real motion picture like quality and virtual animation by utilising its ability to take still photos in rapid succession.

The first phone in many parts of the world to be equipped with high-end features, the E310 is a metallic-finish mobile phone with a super VGA camera phone and multiple enhanced memories for camera (4M), video (2M) and MMS (1.4M). Furthermore, the phone's photo caller ID enables a person's to see the caller, once a picture is assigned to that number.

Mr. Ramdas Rajamani, Marketing Manager, Samsung Gulf Electronics said: 'Samsung's advanced technology and innovative designs are allowing mobile users to experience futuristic features, similar to those proposed by next-generation technologies. To further capitalise on the growth opportunity, we will shortly debut our next-generation camera phones that allow users to take pictures upwards of one million mega-pixel, turning the phones into sophisticated digital cameras'
