The establishment of the new Center comes as a positive response to the needs of the present age with a view to integrating in and contributing to its achievements as producers of knowledge rather than consumers. The Linguistic Center is the brain child of the Dr Saeed Salman who encourages research work not only in language but in all areas of education.
The idea of setting up a Linguistic Research and Translation Center was initially started from the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Translation which sees the importance of establishing a specialized center to cope with the massive flow of scripts, productions and books in different languages and the need for a proper translation of the texts.
Dr Thrwat Al Sakran, former Dean of Faculty of Foreign Languages and Translation has been appointed the Director of the newly established Center. Established in 1988 the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Translation was initially established to facilitate the means of understanding knowledge produced by other nations and also to enable Arab nations to transfer technology and new scientific inventions. The Faculty of Foreign Languages and Translation has three main areas of responsibilities including preparation of Arab Cadres capable of dealing constructively and innovatively with the challenges of the communication and information age with a view to serving the higher goals of the society.
The faculty offers two specialized programmes including Bachelor of Arts in the English Language and Translation and Bachelor of Arts in Communication and Translation.
The Faculty has a number of departments including English Language and Translation, Communication and Translation, Language Skills Translation and Linguistics.
