U.S. Robotics targets enterprise networking market with advanced Gigabit Ethernet portfolio

With the introduction of the new portfolio, the company, which is already an acknowledged international leader in networking technology for the small-to-medium sized and small office/home office (SOHO) segments, will expand its target market to include the enterprise networking market.

"More and more organisations are adopting networked work-flow into their daily operations. Technology must, therefore, keep pace with higher network traffic that stems from the growing number of collaborative work environments, the routine sharing of large files and the multi-tasking of multiple high-bandwidth applications," explains Yusuf Syed, Regional Manager Middle East, U.S. Robotics. "A traditional Ethernet device cannot cope with the sheer volume of transactions, as well as the increasingly large size of files in more complex networks - that is where network breakdowns occur."

Gigabit Ethernet can make a crucial difference, since this kind of bandwidth can provide faster network fulfilment of client requests; it will lead to higher user productivity. At the same time, the network becomes more efficient because client requests close faster, freeing server and network resources sooner.

U.S. Robotics is targeting this market for high traffic, fast-speed and reliable networking with three new products. These include the 24-Port Gigabit Ethernet Switch (Model: USR 7931); the 8-Port Gigabit Ethernet Switch (Model: USR 7930); and the Gigabit Ethernet PCI Card (Model: USR 7902).

Leading the portfolio is U.S. Robotics' 24-Port Gigabit Ethernet Switch, consisting of independently switched RJ-45 Ports. It supports speeds of 10/100 Mbps and 1 Gigabit (1000 Mbps) Ethernet connections; allows for auto-speed detection of 10/100/1000 Mbps connection speeds; and is equipped with auto-switching capabilities, with no crossover cables required. It provides 48 Gbps throughput so all devices operate at maximum speed. The metal, fanless design ensures excellent reliability of the device.

The same technical specifications are also available in an 8-Port option with the USR 7930. Providing a lower throughput at 16 Gbps, the switch will suit the needs of the SOHO segment, where the network traffic is lower and the size of transactions are smaller than an enterprise environment. In fact, the U.S. Robotics 8-Port Gigabit Switch for blazing fast Ethernet connections is ideal for high-bandwidth requirements like digital movies/photography, streaming video, server-to-server connectivity and VoIP.

U.S. Robotics new Gigabit Ethernet PCI card facilitates high-performance Desktop/Server Networking. Like the 24-Port Gigabit Ethernet Switch, the new PCI Card supports Ethernet speeds of 10/100 Mbps and 1 Gigabit (1000Mbps - i.e.1 Billion bits per second); auto-speed detection of 10/100/1000 Mbps connection speeds; and auto MDI and MDIX (a type of Ethernet port connection using twisted pair cabling). Extremely simple to install (3 step installation); the USR 7902 is ideal for high speed server networking.
