PlayStation 2 gets new look
- United Arab Emirates: Wednesday, September 22 - 2004 at 15:25
- PRESS RELEASE
Following the recent global announcement of the completely new look PlayStation 2, Sony Gulf FZE, today announced that the new PlayStation 2 model will become available in the Middle East in November and will be showcased at the upcoming PlayStation Experience at the GITEX Computer Shopper.
While inheriting the basic functions and design philosophy of the current PlayStation 2, the internal architecture has been completely redesigned, resulting in a slimmer and more lightweight design. Internal volume has been reduced by 75%, weight has been halved, and thickness trimmed down to 2.8 cm (thickness of current model is 7.8 cm). Equipped with an integrated Ethernet port for network gaming, the new PlayStation 2 sets new standards in the fusion of design and functionality.
"The increase in the installed base of PlayStation units in the Middle East has been truly impressive. PlayStation 2 alone has an installed base of over 750,000 units in the region now and with the introduction of the newly designed PlayStation 2, we are confident of crossing the 1 million mark by the end of the year", added Mr. Stokes.
"What we are experiencing is a continuous exponential demand for PlayStation hardware and software in the Middle East market. A new generation of gamers in the region is taking to what we offer enthusiastically and in response to this we've decided to bring back the PlayStation Experience".
The PlayStation Experience, which will be part of the `Sony World' consumer showcase arena at the Airport Expo during October 2-8, 2004, will feature an array of the latest gaming titles from PlayStation, offering gamers and non-gamers a totally immersive and interactive gaming experience, which PlayStation is famous for, world over.
The PlayStation Experience will be divided into seven areas highlighting some of the key titles to be released on PlayStation 2 this year, including, Killzone, EyeToy: Play 2, Throttle (featuring GT4, WRC 04 and F1 2004), SingStar Party, This Is Football 2005, The Getaway: Black Monday and a mixed section.
"We are confident that the great line-up of titles and now this stunning new PlayStation 2 model will encourage a whole new generation of consumers to experience the fun of PlayStation", added Mr. Stokes.
