  • PRESS RELEASE

INTRACOM was recently awarded a contract to deploy a network of next-generation public payphones throughout the Global Village, one of the main attractions of the Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF) 2005, making them the only pay phone technology provider to have supplied to all three telecom operators in the UAE-TECOM, Etisalat and Thuraya.

A number of INTRACOM's public switched telephone network (PSTN) pay phones with state-of-the-art management systems were set up by the leading Greek technologies company in record time, prior to the opening of the Global Village on January 12, 2005. Conveniently located, these latest generation pay phones are easy to use and will be operational for all 79 days that the Global Village is open and will remain onsite as part of the Global Village infrastructure.

Over the last 10 years the Global Village has become an icon and the prime attraction of the DSF with a record number of visitors expected to attend and enjoy 46 country pavilions, 54 restaurants and over 75 kiosks of companies from all over the world at its new venue, Dubailand, the region's most comprehensive tourism promotion project.

"According to organisers, this is poised to be the biggest, best and busiest Global Village on record. By providing modern, convenient and user-friendly units, INTRACOM is helping to make this prediction come true, in keeping with the company's slogan - Adapting Technology to Human Needs," said Stavros Vougas, managing director, Intracom Middle East.

Intracom's pay phones are made with the highest quality materials and their advanced CAD design and development result in maximum security for the card-phone operator as well as user comfort. Their inherent modularity allows for easy replacement through the exploitation time, offering simple maintenance and improved features. They are also environmentally friendly and recyclable.

"Whether it is to call home and tell everyone what a wonderful time they're having or to invite friends and family to join them to experience the magic of the Global Village, the influx of visitors who are expected will enjoy and appreciate the convenience of our strategically located pay phones," added Hassan Cheaito, sales manager-UAE, INTRACOM Middle East
