The event focused on the need to respond to changing mail scenario and provide a new direction to posts. The conference brought together chief executives and other key decision-makers from mail and logistics companies to address the most critical issues facing the industry.

Addressing the conference, Mr. Abdullah Al Daboos, Director General of Emirates Post, highlighted how in just three years after becoming a corporation Emirates Post had emerged as a leading and dynamic postal player in the region, driven by innovation and diversification.
"Emirates Post believes there is a need for greater dynamism in postal business. As private companies increasingly enter areas that were once the sole domain of posts, we need to reinvent ourselves to meet the changing customer expectations and business needs," Mr. Daboos said.

Mr. Daboos referred to Emirates Post's plan of diversifying into logistics, financial services and retail operations through the postal network. He said Emirates Post was in negotiations to acquire a financial services company and a logistics & cargo company, as part of its diversification plan.

Mr. Al Daboos highlighted the changing look of Emirates Post's post offices, the advanced POS system that inter-links all post offices and expansion into non-postal areas. He also spoke about Emirates Post's success in the field of Hybrid Mail and Direct Marketing. He further said that the strategic location of the UAE had brought success to the Dubai Airport Mail Transit Hub, which is used by several leading postal operators including Deutsche Post, British Royal Mail and Swiss Post.

"We believe the key to success in postal business today is to diversify into new areas, by leveraging the vast postal network, one of the strengths of posts. Emirates Post believes there is a great future for posts if the right strategies are adopted to create more business opportunities," Mr. Al Daboos added.

Other key speakers at the conference were Jean-Paul Bailly, Chairman, La Poste, Massimo Sarmi, Chief Executive, Poste Italiane, Kaare Frydenberg, Chief Executive Officer, Posten Norge, Alex Smith, Director of Strategy, Royal Mail, Cal Hart, Senior Vice President, Marketing & Product Management, Canada Post Corporation, Marietjie Lancaster, Head of New Ventures, South Africa Post Office, Karl Kern, Head of Post Office Network, La Poste Suisse, Kalle Tarien, Member of Management Board, AS Eesti Post and Philip Dobbenberg, Corporate Director, TPG.
