- One month ago, I pointed out that investors were euphoric about buying everything. The same still applies as of today. Equity investors, commodity traders, property investors, art buyers and even bond fund managers are all bullish about the one or the other asset class.

Investment themes for 2006
- A word of caution: All asset markets (except for the US dollar and US bonds) have been very strong in the first ten days of January and I expect a correction to unfold in the second half of January, which will last at the very least into February.

Buy gold to hedge US dollar downside risk
- From recent US Federal Reserve Board meeting minutes, it would appear that monetary policies will move from a tightening bias to a neutral or easing mode within the next six months or so. In the past, I have maintained that the US, with a debt-to-GDP ratio of over 300%, has no other option but to print money.

Why the Fed has no other alternative but to print money!
- Next time the Fed embarks on its usual money printing exercise, consumer price inflation accompanied by renewed dollar weakness is likely to both exceed asset inflation – especially in the housing sector – and income gains. This should ensure that the forthcoming recession will be characterized by consumer price inflation and simultaneous economic weakness.

Buy the VIX index for renewed volatility!
- Given all the directional uncertainty mentioned below, I regard that the purchase of the VIX Index at around 11 as an extremely attractive proposition. Moreover, it is not only stock market volatility that is near record lows but also bond market volatility.
