Saudi Arabia's Health Minister Dr. Hamad Al Manie said that sweets and chocolates should not be sold in schools because of their effect on children's teeth, reported Arab News. Last year ministry guidelines prohibited carbonated sodas and drinks with a low percentage of fruit juice as well as sweets, chocolates, gum, items in glass containers and any kind of meat.

Private schools can not expel pupils without permission from the UAE Ministry of Education, officials told Gulf News. They said that if they did expel pupils then parents should file a complaint against the school. Only in cases of major offences such as rape would expulsion be allowed, they added.
