University of Greenwich interviews

Hilton University, 200 sign up

More than 200 students have enrolled at the Hilton University this year in the Gulf region, three times the number in 2003, reported Gulf News. Each year an average of 10 courses a year are completed by students of whom 10 per cent are nationals. There are also 300 e-learning courses for the group's employees.

IITM student wins LSE scholarship

Rohan Ghose, an outstanding student at the International Institute for Technology and Management in Knowledge Village in Dubai has been awarded a full scholarship to transfer to the London School of Economics and Political Science in London. Rohan's scholarship includes tuition fees and all living expenses for the two years that he will spend in London completing his Bachelors degree.

KSA dialogue on youth issues

More than 600 young Saudis will participate in a debate on youth issues next week which will culminate in a national dialogue forum on December 7 which will be organised by the King Abdul Aziz Centre for National Dialogue. Officials told journalists some youths who have been under the influence of extremists will also take part.

Dubai's SP Jain Center of Management, has announced the launch of its second batch of the Executive Masters in Business Administration part-time programme after the spectacular success of its first batch, which is running at full strength. This programme is open to all nationalities with a valid UAE visa.

Retrial, UAE compensation case

A retrial has been ordered in the compensation case in which a UAE national lady was granted Dhs300,000 in compensation because her degree from Al Quds Open University was not recognised by the UAE Ministry of Education, reported Gulf News. There will be a new investigation of the case.

KSA, USD70m for English language

Saudi Arabia has launched an ambitious programme to teach English in public schools for the first time and allocated USD70m to the project. Education Minister Dr. Mohammed bin Ahmad Al Rasheed said English training was needed to cope with an increasing reliance on English as the universal language.

Ahlia University, UK cooperation

Bahrain's Ahlia University has started the new academic year with 320 students enrolled since opening two years ago, said President Professor Abdulla Al Hawaj. The university has a memorandum of academic cooperation with Brunel University in the UK. A UK quality assurance team is due to visit in October to extend the academic cooperation to cover all disciplines of BSc, MSc and Doctoral programmes.

The Saudi British Bank has invited applications for scholarships under the SABB Scholarship Scheme for the year 2005 from candidates wishing to pursue MBA courses in the UK. This is open to all Saudi male and female graduates between 28-35 years old with degrees from recognised universities.

AUD posts 77 scholarships

The American University of Dubai has named 77 recipients of the Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum scholarships for the next academic year. Officials said the scholarships were highly sought after and represented the cream of the generation of students.

RAK abandons school building

After a visit by UAE officials 400 pupils in Ras Al Khaimah are to be moved out of their dilapidated school building, reported Gulf News. Earlier this week pupils, teachers and parents staged a demonstration at the school to draw attention to the condition of the 40 year old building.

The Jumeirah English Speaking School is to open a primary school from Foundation through to Year 6, together with a six form entry secondary school, initially for Years 7 and 8, at the Arabian Ranches development in September 2005.
