Bahrain has launched its ambitious school of the future project which will introduce electronic teaching methods to 11 schools over the next few years following the signing of an agreement with the Apple Centre. The project involves converting 420 textbooks into e-books and multi-media sites.
The UAE Ministry of Education is to introduce new rules on accreditation from February 5 under which successful candidates must have studied for more than ten years to gain high school certificates, and to have passed at least six subjects including mathematics, science, social studies and languages, reported Gulf News.

The British University in Dubai is set to open within a few days. The regiona's first research based graduate university will offer master's programmes in project management, informatics and education at its Dubai Knowledge Village campus. Courses start on September 25.

Batelco has given its employees a back-to-school bonus this month with a USD26.5 per student gift in August pay checks, reported local papers. The gift applied to all children between the age of 6 and 18, with a ceiling of six children per family.
The New Abu Dhabi University has launched a special programme for students in need of financial assistance. The sanabel programme will consider individual cases on the basis of merit, and its scholarships are open to all nationalities and the physically handicapped.

Abu Dhabi University is to build a USD55 mn campus in Khalifa City, Khaleej Times reported. The work on the plot, granted by the Abu Dhabi government, will begin in April 2005 and will be completed in four phases. The campus will include laboratories, housing complexes, sports facilities and auditoriums.
