Some 80 UAE high school and university students have completed the internship programme at Dubai Islamic Bank. DIB's Iktasib work placement programme is designed to identify the UAE banking highfliers of the future. This year, DIB has taken two intakes, in response to rising demand from students for summer finance placements.

Jordan now compares well with advanced countries for availability and usage of computers in education, according to a study by the Ministry of Education. The increasing use of IT in Jordan's education system followed a major IT investment programme by the government.
Eight students from the American University of Dubai, University of Sharjah and American University of Beirut have completed the eight-week GE Summer Internship Programme. GE launched the programme five years ago to help bridge the gap between university education and work experience in the Middle East.
International House, the Dubai-based education centre, says demand for English language training has been extremely strong since it launched courses in April 2004. Director Abdulqader Al Khaja said local companies and government agencies place an increasing value on English-language training for their national workforce.

A survey by Dubai-based training consultancy knowledgenetwork found that 80 per cent of Gulf companies face recruitment difficulties. Abdulqader Al Khaja, CEO of knet, says companies should not allow Gulf nationalisation policies to prevent them from recruiting top managerial talent.
Emaar Properties, the Dubai-based real estate developer, announced that Jumeirah English Speaking School will open a new branch of the school in Emaar's Arabian Ranches residential community. The school is scheduled to open in September of 2005, offering primary and secondary education based on the National Curriculum of England and Wales.

Emirates airline group has launched a training programme in finance administration aimed at UAE nationals. The course aims to build on the success of the existing Commercial Managers training scheme. The new initiative is a two-year programme open to UAE nationals with a Bachelor's degree or Higher Diploma.

Dubai-based Enhance Training and Development has unveiled an advanced, two-day programme for finance professionals. Fusion Analysis will demonstrate how to combine technical and fundamental analysis. The course is aimed at hedge fund managers, portfolio managers, analysts and brokers. It will be held at the Dusit Hotel Dubai on October 11-12.

The Zayed University has launched its second educational journal which is published for the professional development of UAE educators. The journal will be published annually and 10,000 copies distributed to all educational zones within the UAE. Its first edition looks at online teaching, and using history and mathematics in the classroom.

The University of Science and Technology, Yemen's first private university, has signed three key agreements with Microsoft that will bring a greater degree of information technology to its students. The agreement licenses all of UST's desktop and server software, and signs up the university to Microsoft's IT Academy and MSDN Academic Alliance programs.
CPI, a UAE publishing house has joined forces with The American University in Dubai to provide two-month long internships for selected students. The internship programme, which began last month, aims to develop local talent in the fields of journalism, marketing and graphic design by allowing students to experience first-hand what it's like working for a publishing company.

Executives with a marketing background make the best leaders, according to a survey by Leading Minds, organiser of the forthcoming Leaders in Dubai event. The UK survey found that 38 per cent of respondents feel marketers make the best leaders. Leading Minds and AMEInfo.com plan to conduct a comparable Middle East survey before the Leaders in Dubai even on November 29/30.

Residents and students in Dubai will soon be able to access thousands of books and magazines online through an e-library in Umm Suqueim with 50 PCs available for readers. From next month the e-library will be open on the premises, but within three months access will be available online for users with a password.
