QNB backs Learning Center

Qatar National Bank is to support The Learning Center School, a non-profit educational institution offering instructional, diagnostic and therapeutic services to students with academic problems. QNB is to sponsor eight scholarships totalling $53,000 for students with academic difficulties.

Al Ain students cancer awareness

Some 130 students from the Al Ain Women's College participated in breast cancer awareness to raise money for research and learn more about this disease. This was part of the Work Readiness Programme and coordinated with various local hospitals.

Lubna on leadership skills

Education from primary school onwards should provide a strong foundation for leadership development, UAE Economy Minister Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi told a conference in Amsterdam. Al Ain, special maths classes

The Al Ain Education Zone is offering pupils in junior classes the chance to improve their mathematics through special coaching centres, reported Gulf News. The centres are open after hours in six schools and opened last month. Teachers said there is a good response.

Pre-Eid truancy in RAK

Some two-thirds of pupils in public schools in Ras Al Khaimah failed to show up yesterday in a bid to expand their Eid holiday, reported Gulf News. The authorities said that the action came despite a warning letter sent to parents about the issue.

Dubai, Al Mankhool public library

Dubai Municipality is to open a public library in Al Mankhool in June next year. The two-storey building will house 120,000 books and have seating for 150 readers as well as a children's library with 9,000 books and room for 100 children.

ZU Dubai campus relocation

The Zayed University campus in Dubai will be relocated next July to a new campus in the Dubai Academic City. There will be a special memorial hall as a tribute to the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and a small museum dedicated to his memory.

Canadian colleges at Getex

There will be 26 Canadian educational institutions participating in the upcoming Global Education and Training Exhibition in Abu Dhabi from November 16-18, reported Gulf News. Getex is opening in the UAE capital for the first time to cater to the growing younger population, and was previously held in Dubai.

UAE girls, UK scholarships

SAE Institute for Dubai

The SAE Institute, reportedly the largest audio, film and multimedia college worldwide, is set to open in Dubai. SAE will operate at Knowledge Village for the next two years and then move to Dubai Studio City, Dubai's new film, broadcast and music production cluster, when its infrastructure is ready.

AUD develops Windows XP

Graduates and students from the American University in Dubai helped develop local version of Microsoft Windows XP software, which was recently premiered at Gitex. The AUD team was involved in both creative and technical aspects of the UAE Windows XP theme pack, which includes music, icons, and a screen saver inspired from UAE culture.
