Emiratisation body Tanmia has launched a campaign designed to inform UAE students about opportunities in the local employment market. The move will see Tanmia establishing information bureaus at schools, universities and colleges throughout the country. Bureaus will be established at the Institute of Applied Technology, Emirates University, Al Ain Women's Technical College, Al Fujairah Men's Technical College, Ajman Secondary School, Al Ameer Secondary School and Al Quadssiyeh Secondary School.

Many public school pupils in Ras Al Khaimah are enjoying an extended holiday for Eid Al Adha after missing most of last week's classes, reported Gulf News. An education official said students would often decide for themselves when to take their holidays and only those needing to attend exams turned up. Schools had sent out letters urging parents to make sure their children adhered to the correct holiday dates.

Global Education Management Systems is postponing fee increases at its Dubai-based schools until the Dubai Education Council concludes a review, Gulf News reported. Gems wants to increase fees in five schools by 55% to 70%.

Dubai Women's College will offer a course in insurance from February 2007. The Advanced Diploma in Insurance Services and Management is an 18-month programme benchmarked against the UK Chartered Institute of Insurance, the UAE Higher Colleges of Technology said in statement. The aim is to have UAE nationals gain qualifications to allow them to work in the growing insurance sector.

Bahrain is setting up a specialist higher education centre called Education City, Gulf News reported. The Bahrain Economic Development Board signed an agreement with Kuwait Finance and Investment Company to develop the project. It will have a US university, centre for research and studies, specialist academy, sports facilities, and a residential component.

The UAE Ministry of Labour has fined two schools in Abu Dhabi for employing unregistered teachers, reported Gulf News. An official at the ministry said the Al Ma'ali International School had 14 teachers without the correct documentation, while the Al Rawafed Private School was found to be employing 60 unregistered teachers.

Students taking a master's in project management at the British University in Dubai are now able to take modules in Abu Dhabi. The move is to reduce the travel burden on students who live in Abu Dhabi, many of whom are combining their studies with part-time jobs, the university said.
