Refugee students in Lebanon have been given Dh1m by the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Charity and Humanitarian Establishment, the WAM news agency reports. Schoolbags and school equipment will be given to around 10,000 refugees at different educational stages. A further 13,000 will be given aid to reduce their suffering.
Around 100 students have signed on for Aluminium Bahrain's summer internship programme this year, Gulf Daily News reports. The students come from various secondary schools, Bahrain University, private universities, Bahrain Training Institute and institutions abroad. They will be placed with various departments such as metallurgy, laboratories, human resources, training, business administration, safety, health and environment and public relations.
Iran and Tajikistan have signed a detailed agreement which will see the two countries work together on scientific research and set up an exchange scheme involving university students and professors, according to the Iran Daily citing the IRNA. As part of the tie-up, Tajik and Iranian researchers will participate in scientific conferences, while Iran has granted scholarships to 100 Tajik students for the next academic year.
Saudi Arabia's Effat College and the Dallah Albaraka Holding Company have signed an agreement which will lead to a number of initiatives across various fields, reported the Arab News. The two organisations will look to enhance the curriculum through workshops and conferences, while students will be supported by grants and other financial support. There will also be an emphasis on finding more job opportunities for women and greater use of IT.
The UAE's Higher Corporation for Specialised Economic Zones, ZonesCorp, and the Institute de Soudure Industrie, the French Welding Institute, have begun talks regarding the establishment of a research and development and training centre at the Abu Dhabi Industrial City, reported the local WAM news agency. The two organisations have already agreed to promote international core competencies in the welding sector across the Mena region.

The CMEBC will advance management education along with collaborative and experiential learning. The Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing has signed an agreement with the Emirates Aviation College to work together to improve training opportunities for the hospitality and tourism industry in the city. The deal will see both sides plan, develop and conduct joint and complementary training programmes for hospitality industry professionals, with a particular emphasis on those working for the Emirates Group.

The UAE's Western Region Development Council is to establish three centres to train 300 Emirati women in IT, business planning and personal development. Courses will get underway within a few weeks and follow the signing of an agreement with the Institute of International Education. Local women can contact the WRDC if they would like to undertake a training programme.

The Canadian University of Dubai has received local accreditation for its degree programmes. Four bachelor's degree courses were accredited: in engineering networking technology; and business administration in marketing, human resource management, and e-business.

Gulf Air and Bahrain Airport Services will train 25 Bahrainis to qualify as aircraft maintenance engineers. The group will be put through four years of theory and practical training. The qualification is accredited by the European Aviation Safety Agents.
Authorities have warned Dubai private schools about raising school fees by hiking unauthorised fees in related services. The Knowledge and Human Development Authority has sent a circular to all private schools in the emirate following reports that some schools were attempting to circumvent the statutory maximum levels for annual fee increases.

Abu Dhabi University has signed a collaboration agreement with France's Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussees. Under the terms of the deal, MBA students at ADU can take a second MBA degree in International Business from ENPC. ADU says its MBA programme has attracted over 75 business professionals in the year since it launched.

Dubai Real Estate Institute and the UK's University of Reading have agreed to develop executive education programmes and training in real estate. Reading's Department of Real Estate and Planning will conduct the lectures. DREI also has partnerships with the National University of Singapore and Sweden's Royal Institute of Technology.

The UK's Beacon Education will establish a school in the Durrat Al Bahrain project, following the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the developer. Classes up to secondary school would be offered from the 2009-10 academic year.
Bahrain Institute of Banking and Finance will offer the world's first formal qualification in Islamic insurance, as one of a number of new training courses it revealed yesterday, Gulf Daily News reported. The institute had 13,000 students enrolled in its courses last year, compared to around 450 in its first year of operations in 1981, said director Hussain Ismail.
