The UAE's Ras Al Khaimah Medical and Health Sciences University will have a new 600,000-square-foot campus next year, reported Emirates Today. Vice-Chancellor Dr. S Gurumadhva Rao said the building, which will have more than 10 lecture halls, an anatomy dissection hall, a bio-chemistry lab and a clinical skills lab, will be located on 10.5 acres of land granted by the government of the emirate.

Ras Al Khaimah's Education Zone has warned private schools in the emirate that they face fines of Dhs50,000 for each violation if they fail to issue staff with labour cards, reported Gulf News. Educational authorities held a meeting yesterday, Sunday, with principals of schools teaching English, Indian, Pakistani and Bangladeshi curricula. The principals were advised to hire staff sponsored by the school itself and not by their families.

Jordan has extended by a fortnight a September 15 deadline for Iraqi children to register at public schools in the kingdom, reported Arab News. The delay has come about after UN organisations claimed registration had thus far been poor despite Jordan's announcement that it would accept 40,000 Iraqi children in its schools this academic year. The extension is aimed at enabling Iraqi families to access the necessary documentation.
Arabic private schools in the UAE are arranging their own academic book orders, following a change in policy by the Ministry of Education, reported Gulf News. The move comes after several schools made orders in excess of their eventual needs and the ministry was left with a large surplus. The ministry has also advised parents to make sure schools do not subsequently attempt to hike the price of the books.

DAE University, Dubai Aerospace Enterprise's new aerospace eductional institution, is offering two Bachelor degree programs in flight and aviation management and aviation business administration, reported Gulf News. The programs were recently approved by the UAE Commission for Academic Accreditation (CAA) of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The Dubai-based university, which was established in October last year, is scheduled to begin classes on September 16.

Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service in Qatar said it will implement Polycom RealPresence Experience High Definition, making it the first university in the region to adopt immersive telepresence video conferencing as an educational tool. The system allows for 'realistic' interaction between students and faculty since it makes the technology more transparent, thus reducing the 'distance' that some students feel. It will be used to deliver undergraduate courses to and from Washington.
King Saud University in Riyadh has signed up eleven Nobel Prize laureates, including scientists and economists, under a program aimed at strengthening Saudi Arabia's position in the science and technology sector, reported Arab News. Artefacts from the Moscow Kremlin Museums are to go on display today, Monday, at the Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi, reported Gulf News. The exhibition, which is free, will remain open until November 18 and is entitled 'The Arsenal of the Russian Tsars: Treasures of the Moscow Kremlin Museums'. More than 100 items have been brought in from Russia including the work of Persian, Turkish and Arab artists.

Abdullah Al Karam, the Chairman of the Board of Directors and Executive Director of the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, has said the UAE needs to diversify its range of university courses, reported Gulf News. Al Karam said most postgraduate course providers tended to focus on MBA programmes while undergraduate degree options were also limited. The Cambridge International School, part of the Global Education Management Systems (GEMS) network, has been granted membership of the Cambridge International Fellowship Centre partly due to its results at IGCSE, AS and A-level examinations, reported Gulf News. It becomes the third school in the UAE to receive the award which is handed out by the University of Cambridge International Examinations. 60 schools worldwide are part of the fellowship centre.
