UAE Academy, a subsidiary of the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, has signed an Emiratization Employer Program agreement with the Union National Bank, under which UNB will have access to a database of UAE national graduates which the bank can use to search for qualified candidates. UNB will work in conjunction with the UAE Academy to process and screen applications and conduct interviews with UAE graduates.

Following the signing of a three-year Memorandum of Understanding between Siemens and Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) at Dubai Men's College, Siemens has said that it will provide HCT Centre of Engineering Excellence with a high-tech laboratory, due to open in November, equipped with the very latest in engineering equipment. As part of the agreement Siemens will train the instructors in the use of the materials and technology provided.

Abu Dhabi Airports Company has announced a new alliance with the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech), to establish a civil aviation and systems education and research facility. Adac and Georgia Tech will work together to establish a civil aviation and systems education and research facility, which aims at solving some of the difficult air traffic and air navigation problems along with optimising the use of airspace and airport infrastructure.

Egypt-based Giza Systems and the American University in Cairo have teamed up to set up the 'Giza Systems School of Technology'. The school will offer training courses for fresh graduates from Egyptian universities. The courses will cover business soft skills as well as the skills needed for sales and management practices, aimed at serving Egypt's ICT sector.
Seventy public schools from the Northern Emirates have volunteered to undergo an evaluation process, in the hope of receiving international accreditation, according to a senior official at the UAE Ministry of Education (MoE). The move aims to raise standards at public schools across the country. Participants will be evaluated based on criteria including leadership, school society, students' activities and school facilities. The ministry said school accreditation files were received in May and will soon be evaluated.

Dubai Aluminium (Dubal) has offered 15 UAE national students studying engineering, finance and business from various universities and colleges across the country positions in its annual Work Placement Programme. Students have been placed in a range of departments, including Power & Desalination, Maintenance, Finance and Marketing & Sales, and will be paid for the month spent at Dubal's Jebel Ali site. Each student must deliver a presentation on what they learnt once they return to campus.

Kuwait University Acceptance and Registration Dean Dr. Muthanna Al-Refaie said that 5,000 students will be accepted into Kuwait universities this year and that TOEFL will be accepted as equivalent to Kuwait University English exams.
The Dow Chemical Company has announced its intention to establish a multi-year, multi-million dollar joint research framework with Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), which will concentrate on using catalysis as a means to develop new routes for producing chemical derivatives. Dow has also announced its intention to explore developmental efforts at the KAUST Research Park and Innovations Cluster in areas such CO2 capture, enhanced oil recovery, water desalination, solar energy, and wind energy.
Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, in his capacity as the Ruler of Dubai, has issued a decree for the establishment of the Hamdan bin Mohammed e-University (HBMe-U) as an autonomous body that will enjoy financial and administrative independence. HBME-U, which will be based in Dubai, will offer academic programmes, including Bachelor and Master's degrees, as well as PhDs in Business Management and Total Quality Management. Shaikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, has been appointed as the Chancellor of HBMe-U.

Dubai Bank has announced the launch of 'Taehhal' program, which offers a two-month summer internship programme for up to 20 students aged 16 years and above, including high school and university students who are residents of the UAE, training them in a wide range of business and banking skills. The bank says that interns will gain on-the-job experience across various divisions of the bank, and will acquire basic skills in customer service, communications, business writing, IT systems, and self-motivational exercises, within the context of the banking industry.

The UAE University's College of Business and Economics has signed a memorandum of understanding with the University of Cambridge's Judge Business School to establish a new centre for executive education in Abu Dhabi to build the capabilities and support the professional development needs of the private and public sectors. The two universities will begin delivering open enrolment and customised programmes to participants and industry representatives beginning in 2010, and will provide curriculum development, faculty members and programme administrations support.

The UAE's Ministry of Health has decided to exempt graduates of Sharjah University's College of Pharmacy from one year of their post-graduation training, thus enabling them to start their professional lives a year before pharmaceutical graduates from other colleges, and to apply to the ministry's specialized departments for evaluation, in line with its rules and regulations. Dr Hussam Aldeen Hamdi, Deputy Director of medicine and medical sciences college affairs and Dean of Medical School, said the ministry took the decision after reviewing the pharmaceutical college's five-year curriculum, the last of which is a year of training.
