  • Yemen, WB discuss educational cooperation

  • Deputy minister of education Abdul-Aziz bin Habtour held talks with the Washington-based World Banks Consultant Brenda Cock education cooperation between Yemen and the WB, reported Saba. The meeting dealt with a report to be presented in the Semester Evaluation Conference of Basic Education Development Project (BEDP) to be held next April. Bin Habtour valued donor's support to the project that contributed positively to boost human capabilities and constructing schools in different governorates. He also discussed with the consultant of BEDP Sharon Bity mechanisms of developing project's performance and possible support of Education Ministry's Technical department for this purpose.

  • Murdoch University to launch in Dubai

  • Australia's Murdoch University has signed a partnership agreement with Dubai's International Academic City to open up a new university in the emirate. Murdoch University International Study Centre Dubai is expected to attract students from within the UAE, across the Middle East as well as the Subcontinent, offering degrees in Media, Mass Communication and Business. The first semester will start in September 2008.

  • Manchester Business School seeks top management talent at EduKuwait

  • Manchester Business School, the UK's largest campus-based business school), is exhibiting for the first time at the EduKuwait Exhibition 2008, at the Radisson SAS hotel, February 19-21. The blended learning arm of the School - Manchester Business School (MBS) Worldwide - which has centers around the world, including a Middle East centre in Dubai, will present its range of specialist and general MBA programmes, designed for experienced working professionals and managers.

  • Saudi to expand translation

  • Saudi Arabia will set up an autonomous international translation center with a mandate to translate educational materials, reported Arab News. The facility will be under the College of Languages and Translation, which has currently a cumulative enrolment of over 4,000 students including female students, pursuing courses in 10 languages.

  • 'Teach in Dubai' programme launched

  • The Dubai School Agency, the first agency of the Knowledge and Human Development Authority in Dubai in collaboration with the British University in Dubai has kicked off the first phase of their 'Teach in Dubai' programme. Dr Abdullah Al Karam, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Director General of KHDA, said the programme offers full scholarships to train students for a post graduate diploma in Education as one part of KHDA's efforts to invest in the teaching profession.

  • New vice-chancellor for Qaboos University

  • Dr Ali bin Saud bin Ali Al Bimani has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor of the Sultan Qaboos University in place of Dr Saud bin Nasser bin Ali Al Riyami through a decree issued by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, reported Khaleej Times. Dr Bimani was until now the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Community Service. Dr Riyami was appointed an academic advisor at the Higher Education Council with his existing grade.

  • Handicapped students accepted in Kuwait's private schools

  • The Ministry of Education's assistant undersecretary for private education Fahad Al-Ghais issued a proposal that expatriate students with special needs be accepted by private schools, reported Kuwait Times. Al-Ghais pointed out that handicapped expatriate students should be accepted to private schools, but only on the condition that the schools have vacant classes for such students.

  • Bahrain schools benefit from tree planting initiative

  • As part of The Riffa Views Tree Planting Initiative ten trees were planted at four Bahrain schools. Richard Browning, CEO of Riffa Views and Hugh O'Shea, Sales & Marketing Director, were present at each school as part of a road show that involves visiting 60 schools for the planting of more than 80 trees.
