EFG-Hermes donates $500,000 to school feeding
- The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) welcomed $500,000 contribution from EFG-Hermes Foundation to support the education of thousands of vulnerable children in Egypt by providing them with take-home rations of food. The donation will be used to support children engaged in or at risk of engaging in exploitative child labour, as well as children who are enrolled in community schools with a special emphasis on girls' education. Take-home rations of food will be purchased for approximately 9,250 children in the four governorates of Sohag, Beni Sweif, Assiut, and Red Sea.

High-level education forum to be held in Dubai
- Delegates from Ministries of Education from the Middle East, South Asia and the UK will meet to discuss the future of education in a forum to be held in Dubai on 27 February. The forum, 'Building Capacity, Raising Performance: Trends in Secondary Education', will focus on issues central to education policy making and the international drive for improved school performance. Ministry officials from Qatar, Sudan, Pakistan, UAE, Jordan, Oman, Syria, Egypt, and Kuwait will be in attendance. The forum will be hosted by University of Cambridge International Examinations in partnership with the Knowledge and Human Development Authority and RM Education.

UN praises Qatar education initiatives
- UNESCO has praised the attention Qatar accords to the education process in the country and said the regional conference on the Arab States-mid term Review on Education for All, to be held from today until Thursday at Ritz Carlton Hotel in Doha, reported Gulf Times. In a statement to Qatar News Agency, Hamad bin Saif al Homami, the director of UNESCO's regional office in Doha, hailed Qatar's pioneering experience in the domain of advancing education through state initiatives. Education ministers from 20 Arab countries will participate in the conference to demonstrate their accomplishments towards materializing the objective of the UNESCO's education initiative.

Yemen, WB discuss educational cooperation
- Deputy minister of education Abdul-Aziz bin Habtour held talks with the Washington-based World Banks Consultant Brenda Cock education cooperation between Yemen and the WB, reported Saba. The meeting dealt with a report to be presented in the Semester Evaluation Conference of Basic Education Development Project (BEDP) to be held next April. Bin Habtour valued donor's support to the project that contributed positively to boost human capabilities and constructing schools in different governorates. He also discussed with the consultant of BEDP Sharon Bity mechanisms of developing project's performance and possible support of Education Ministry's Technical department for this purpose.

Murdoch University to launch in Dubai
- Australia's Murdoch University has signed a partnership agreement with Dubai's International Academic City to open up a new university in the emirate. Murdoch University International Study Centre Dubai is expected to attract students from within the UAE, across the Middle East as well as the Subcontinent, offering degrees in Media, Mass Communication and Business. The first semester will start in September 2008.

Manchester Business School seeks top management talent at EduKuwait

Saudi to expand translation
- Saudi Arabia will set up an autonomous international translation center with a mandate to translate educational materials, reported Arab News. The facility will be under the College of Languages and Translation, which has currently a cumulative enrolment of over 4,000 students including female students, pursuing courses in 10 languages.

'Teach in Dubai' programme launched
- The Dubai School Agency, the first agency of the Knowledge and Human Development Authority in Dubai in collaboration with the British University in Dubai has kicked off the first phase of their 'Teach in Dubai' programme. Dr Abdullah Al Karam, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Director General of KHDA, said the programme offers full scholarships to train students for a post graduate diploma in Education as one part of KHDA's efforts to invest in the teaching profession.
