The American University (AUE) in the Emirates has signed an articulation agreement with Edexcel, the UK's largest awarding body. As part of the agreement, AUE will grant holders of Edexcel BTEC HNDs credit toward the relevant Associate or Bachelor's programmes. The agreement will apply to all present and future degree programmes offered by the university, AUE has said in a statement.

French school in Qatar (Voltaire) has signed an agreement for cooperation with the Sorbonne university, Gulf Times has reported. According to the agreement, the Sorbonne in Paris will accept 30 students annually from the Qatari-French School. The deal covers cooperation in legal, economic and administrative sciences.
Qatar's Supreme Council of Health (SCH) has announced it is all set to launch a 10-day mass seasonal flu vaccination campaign all for all school students next week, the Gulf Times has reported. However, the vaccine will not be administered without the consent of parents, SCH has said. A total of 500,000 doses of the vaccine will be available for the campaign.
The Municipality of Abu Dhabi City has signed a memorandum of understanding with Zayed University to establish a strategic partnership for the next five years, WAM has reported. The agreement will focus on education affairs, applied research, institutional development, consultancy and the requirements of municipal services to the community.

Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC), in partnership with the Building Schools Exhibition and Conference - Middle East and North Africa (BSEC Mena), has launched the Future Schools Design Competition for students to develop school designs over a series of phases of the competition. The three-phase competition involves participating schools developing a journal outlining the goals of their project. It also requires students to learn about sustainable practices which they will be encouraged to apply to their design, and to work with Abu Dhabi-based architects to help them plan for the creation of a model. The winning designs will be displayed at the Building Schools Exhibition and Conference-Middle East and North Africa (BSEC Mena), which will be staged at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) on December 13 and 14, 2009.

Dubai parents are being asked to evaluate their children's school through an online questionnaire on the Knowledge and Human Development Authority's (KHDA) website. Over 200,000 parents are expected to give their report card before officials from the Dubai Schools Inspection Bureau visit the institutions for the second cycle of inspections starting on October 4. The online questionnaire includes 20 questions which range from how happy the child seems, to what transport they use to get to and from school. Parents are asked complete the questionnaire within seven days to rate the teaching of Islamic Education, Arabic, mathematics and science, and give any other comments they wish to make.

Private schools in the UAE have been warned not to charge more than the cover price for textbooks after parents complained of being overcharged, The National has reported. Despite a previous order by the ministry of education to display the sales price clearly on textbook covers, some schools had tried to hide the price printed on the back of the book to prevent parents from detecting the mark-up, Kholood al Qassimi, director of the curriculum department said. According to the ministry, the cost of a textbook must not exceed Dhs9.50.

Manchester Business School Worldwide has launched an invitation to Emirati nationals to submit their innovative business ideas as part of the inaugural 'Manchester Innovation Award' in the UAE. Some schools in Bahrain are trying to overcome potential curriculum delays by offering online services to help students catch up on coursework until classes are resumed, Gulf Daily News has reported. Some schools are also giving students assignments to complete at home to ensure they do not fall too far behind. Most schools in Bahrain were due to re-open today but were ordered to remain closed because of swine flu fears. All secondary schools will remain closed until October 4, intermediate schools until October 11, primary until October 18 and kindergartens and special needs centres until November 1.
All schools in Qatar set to reopen tomorrow (Sept 27) including private, community and Independent Schools, will reopen on October 4, The Peninsula has reported. Qatar Minister of Education and Higher Education H E Saad bin Ibrahim Al Mahmoud has announced the decision of delaying the reopening of schools for a week for the schools to make adequate preparations to prevent a possible spread of the H1N1 virus.
Head teachers in the northern Emirates have said they were ready to implement the national strategy to combat the A(H1N1) virus but are facing a shortage of nurses, with many schools sharing just one, The National has reported. 'We need at least one nurse in every school. We can't keep on waiting for a nurse to come from another school when we have an emergency at our school,' one head teacher said.

Bahrain's ministry of education has ordered all public and private secondary schools to remain closed until October 4. All intermediate school pupils must stay away until October 11 and all primary school pupils until October 18, while schools or classes for kindergarten-age pupils and special needs centres must stay closed until November 1, having earlier been ordered shut until October 4. The decision was taken to safeguard the return of pupils to classes, particularly vulnerable groups such as young children and to alleviate pressure on the country's health services, the ministry has said.
Saudi universities are not included in the the royal decree that delayed the reopening of schools after summer holidays, and will be reopened on Oct. 3 as scheduled, Arab News has reported. An official of the Higher Education Council has said, "University students do not need any delay in restarting their studies due to swine flu pandemic as they enjoy greater immunity."
