Dubai intersections get cameras

Most intersections on Dubai roads have been equipped with cameras to detect motorists who push the pedal to catch the amber, but fail. A motorist caught jumping the red light at traffic signals can be fined about UD135 and given five black points. Dubai police is aso carrying out public campaigns to check overtaking from the hard shoulder.

Mercedes owners get free car check

Gargash Enterprises, Mercedes Benz dealer in Dubai and the northern emirates, is offering a free 101-point car check to Mercedes owners from all over the UAE. The offer runs from October 4-16 at Gargash service facilities in Deira, Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah.

High security cars from Mercedes

Emirates Motors, Abu Dhabi distributor of Mercedes Benz, has displayed S500 V8 saloon and the S600 at the on-going security show in the UAE Capital. The handmade bullet-proof explosion-resistant cars provide the highest protection to passengers. They are being aimed at the VIP market in the Mideast, company officials said.

Nissan dealer to spruce up service

Abu Dhabi Nissan distributor, Al Masaood Autmobiles, is spending about USD6.75m to spruce up service and spare parts through a new facility. First phase is scheduled to be ready by end of next year and the second phase by end-2006, Gulf News said.

BMW X5 set for Mideast debut

BMW X5 Security will make its Mideast debut at the Security and Safety Middle East 2003 Exhibition in Abu Dhabi from October 5-8. The car is BMW's first security sports activity vehicle (SAV). BMW will also be displaying a range of its cars including the 745Li High Security, at the show.

The PT Cruiser from Chrysler has become the mobile face of Pepsi X, the new energy drink from Pepsi with a cola taste. The Pepsi X liveried car from Chrylser distributor Trading Enterprises, is on the UAE streets and is aimed as a marketing exercise for 16-25 year olds.

Hybrid cars that run on gasoline and electricity may not be expensive to make, said Toyota at the launch of its second generation Prius. Toyota and Honda have been accused in the past of selling hybrid cars at a loss given the labour intensive assembly that is required.

Penalty for hard shoulder parking

Dubai police is coming down heavily on motorists and heavy vehicle drivers who use the hard shoulders of various roads. Vehicles found to be parked on hard shoulders would be impounded for at least two weeks and their owners will be fined about USD108.
