New Infiniti showroom in Beirut

The first Infiniti showroom outside North America has been inaugurated in the trendiest beachfront sector of downtown Beirut. The stylish showroom reception welcomed the press, top VIP's and executives from Nissan Middle East office. Oman Police buy Chevys

The Royal Oman Police have taken delivery of 30 Chevrolet Luminas and another 30 Caprices. They said Chevrolet cars have proved to be highly reliable, powerful and easy to maintain. The new vehicles are equipped with reinforced suspension and advanced braking systems.

Trucks ban off on Emirates Road

A decision to ban trucks during peak hours on the Emirates Road has been reversed as not practical, reported Gulf News. Officials said the ban will only be applied when an alternative route for heavy vehicles can be found. However, such vehicles must still keep out of the fast lane.

Nissan Armada completes line-up

Nissan's new full-size Armada 4x4 gives the company an across-the-range 4x4 line-up and features a 5.6-litre, aluminum-alloy V8 engine producing 340 bhp. BMW recalls 75,000 cars

BMW is to recall 75,000 of its 5- and 7-Series cars after problems with front-seat heating mats which could overheat in certain circumstances, said a company statement. Some 69,750 5-Series launched in mid-2003 are affected by the recall, and 5,500 of the 7-Series. The recall affects cars made between February 2003 and June 2004.

Rain in Dubai, 500 accidents

The Dubai Police reported more than 500 accidents yesterday mainly due to motorists ignoring traffic rules in the pouring rain. Speeding and lane indiscipline were the main causes of accidents, Deputy Police Director Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah Al Ghaith told Gulf News.

Sharjah mulls tougher penalties

A meeting of the Sharjah Consultative Council heard yesterday from officials that tougher traffic rules were needed to deal with speeding offences, reported Gulf News. The meeting was also told that the police have just 14 patrol cars in Sharjah who handle around 400 accidents a day.

Quad bikes banned from Dubai

The Dubai Police have completely banned the use of quad bikes on all roads in the emirate, and warned that bikes will be confiscated if they are used on roads, reported Gulf News. There is also a complete ban on the renting of quad bikes to children under the age of 18 by rental companies.
