Ninth generation Nissan Sunny
The ninth generation 2005 Sunny is now available in two model variants, Super Saloon and EX Saloon, with a choice of three 16-valve DOHC power plants in capacities of 1.3, 1.6, and 1.8 litres. EBD and Brake Assist are standard on all Sunny models equipped with ABS. UAE agents are Arabian Automobiles.
Accident fines in Sharjah
Sharjah is imposing fines on car drivers at fault in traffic accidents of Dhs100-200, reported Gulf News. In Ajman motorists in accidents pay Dhs50 regardless of the offence committed. Dubai remains more lenient with no fines for minor accidents.
Peugeot 407 targets safety
The new Peugeot 407 claims to set new industry standards for road holding with up to nine airbags and a double aluminium front-end assembly, ABS, ESP and wheel-by-wheel braking. UAE agents are Swaidan Trading and Omeir bin Youssef.
AD Motor Show opens
Sheikh Nasser bin Zayed Al Nahyan opened the 10th Abu Dhabi International Motor Show yesterday in the UAE capital with 30 manufacturers taking part. With the local car sector booming this year, the show is bigger and better than ever.
Jeep Comanche, something extra
UAE Jeep agents Trading Enterprises has introduced a new extreme off-road Jeep Wrangler dubbed the Comanche. The Comanche features six inch fender flares, raised suspension, beefy off-road 31 x 10 x 50R15LT Micky Thompson tyres on 15-inch Micky Thompson aluminium wheels, stainless steel hood latches, chrome-plated grille inserts, two off-road front spotlights and Comanche logos.
Scorpio 4x4 from India
The UAE's Galadari Automobiles is to launch the Scorpio 4x4 from Mahindra and Mahindra of India within the next few weeks. The manufacturers claim the Scorpio is a truly world-class vehicle, and bridges the gap between style and adventure, luxury and ruggedness, and performance and economy.
Media pre-launch for BMW 1-Series
Delegates to the annual Gulf Marketing Review conference in Dubai today enjoyed a pre-launch view of the stunning new BMW 1-Series. The top-of-the-line BMW 120i shifts from 0-100 kph in just 8.7 seconds with classic BMW good looks and the innovative iDrive Controller as standard. Standby for the official launch next month.
Chrysler tops sales growth
Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge Middle East grew faster than any rival in the first eight months of the year, with 44 per cent growth. Jeep Wrangler sales boomed 82 per cent, while Chrysler put in a sparkling 71 per cent rise. This massive hike in sales comes even before the roll-out of a slew of new models across the range over the next 12 months.
Jeep sales rocket 64pc
Jeep confirmed its iconic status in the regional 4x4 market with a 64 per cent surge in sales between January and August. Overall the Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge Middle East division enjoyed a 44 per cent hike in sales. The introduction of the Jeep Trail Rated standard had underlined Jeep's status, said officials.
Low-cost finance must end
The rise in interest rates in the UAE to 1.75 per cent last week is expected to signal an end to the many low-cost car finance deals presently on offer. Industry sources said the time to buy was now while these offers were still available. Interest rates are now on a rising trend so the exceptional deals of recent years can not last.
AD Motor Show starts Sept 28
The 10th Abu Dhabi International Motor Show will be held from September 28 to October 2 at The Abu Dhabi International Exhibition Centre. Long Wheelbase Jaguar XJ
Jaguar has announced the arrival of the new Jaguar XJ Long Wheelbase version at Al Tayer Motors and Jaguar Abu Dhabi. This is the natural alternative for the Jaguar driver who admires the looks and driver-focused dynamics of the standard wheelbase XJ saloon, but prefers additional rear seat room and, possibly, the versatility of being able to use the back seats as a traveling office.
Mercedes CLS 55 AMG debut
Mercedes-Benz gives the new CLS 55 AMG its world debut tomorrow at the Paris Motor Show. The car arrives in the Middle East in March next year. This four-door coupé is driven by a powerful AMG V8 supercharged engine, which generates 476 bhp and moves from zero to 100 kph in 4.7 seconds.
Nissan rolls out new 4x4s
Nissan Middle East has launched three new 4X4 models: the all-new Murano and Armada, respectively Nissan's first cross-over and first Japanese full-size market entrants. Armada will be available in market in December 2004, and the Murano by January 2005. Nissan's flagship 4x4, the Patrol, gets facelift for 2005 plus the new versions of the Pathfinder and X-Trail are ready.
Ford keeps 50pc promotion
The summer deal on Ford models with just 50 per cent paid upfront and the balance in two years is still running at Al Tayer Motors. There is also a three year or 60,000km warranty, two-year or 40,000km service contract and three years of roadside assistance.
