Kia UAE agent Al Majid Motors is offering a special deal on the Optima saloon with prices from Dhs41,900. This includes two years or 25,000km of free service, free registration and low-cost finance. This 2-litre saloon has full power options and H-Matic transmission.
Bad drivers loose their cars
Dubai Police are confiscating the cars of bad drivers for one week as a penalty for weaving through busy traffic, for example. Gulf News reported that Dubai Police issued 35 tickets for traffic violations in 10 minutes yesterday at the start of the latest crackdown. Driving on the hard shoulder means a month's confiscation and Dhs400 fine.
BMW, 10th year in Mideast
The BMW Group Middle East marks its 10th anniversary in the region this year. Sales are up from 2,800 cars in 1994 to more than 10,000 today, said MD Guenther Seemann who returned to the region this year but was part of the launch team in 1994.
Bentley wins Mideast award
The Bentley Continental GT has won the Car of the Year and Best Coupe Autocar Middle East at the annual Autocar Middle East awards. UAE agents Al Habtoor picked up the prizes. The Bentley Continental GT is the world's fastest four-seat coupe.
Ford Expedition, new offer
UAE agents Al Tayer Motors and Premier Motors are offering a five-year unlimited mileage warranty and a two-year or 40,000km service contract on the Ford Expedition 4x4, with prices from Dhs108,000. There is also a pay 50 per cent now and 50 per cent in two years deal.
Sharjah-Dubai road tolls
The highway from Sharjah to Dubai is to be tolled, reported Gulf News. Drivers will have to pay Dhs3 to Dhs5 per journey to use the road, and the toll system is now out to tender. This system is apparently rather like the Congestion Charge on commuters coming into London.
Dodge Durango, finance deal
UAE agents Trading Enterprises is offering low-cost finance from Dhs1,849 a month on the Dodge Durango 4x4. This seven-seater has a 340 bhp, 5.7-litre Hemi engine, four-wheel disc brakes with ABS and a five-star rating for front-impact crashes.
Pre-owned Volvos, year-end sale
The UAE's Trading Enterprises is running a year-end sale on pre-owned Volvos with savings of Dhs20-36,000 on all models, many of which are from 2004. The cars are completely reconditioned after a 120-point inspection and carry a minimum of a two year Volvo warranty.
No.28 costs USD196,000
A Dubai car registration plate with the unusual two-digit number 28 sold for USD196,000 at a Dubai Police auction yesterday. But this fell short of the USD327,000 paid for No.12 at the last auction. A total of USD3.8m was paid yesterday for 58 prestige licence plates with the next highest bids going for D7777 and E8888.
Kia Carnival, budget solution
The seven and nine-seater Kia Carnival is a budget solution for larger families with prices from Dhs58,900. The Carnival has 2.5 or 3.5-litre V6 engine options, alloy wheels, dual air-conditioning, CD, electric sunroof and side impact protection system. Al Majid Motors is UAE agent, and also offers four-year finance.
Daimler, GM, hybrid tie-up
DaimlerChrysler and General Motors are joining forces to jointly develop new hybrid engines to compete with their Japanese rivals. Hybrids use an electric motor and an internal combustion engine, with cars running on batteries at low speeds and automatically recharging.
Nissan's Infiniti coming soon
Nissan has chosen the Middle East as the first market outside of North America to launch its Infiniti lineup. Early 2005 the new range of Infiniti cars and luxury 4x4s will be available including the FX crossover and G35 sports sedan and coupe. The Infiniti brand has been represented in the Middle East since 2002 through limited imports of the Q45 luxury sedan.
GM ups Jebel Ali expansion
General Motors has accelerated the expansion of its Middle East distribution hub in Jebel Ali Free Zone to cope with increasing demand. Group VP Maureen Kempston joined local officials at a groundbreaking ceremony yesterday for the 120,000 sqft expansion project. GM is selling almost 100,000 vehicles in the region a year.

The Dubai Municipality is offering a birds-eye view of the traffic from its cameras mounted at strategic points throughout the city, visit http://vgn.dm.gov.ae/DMEGOV/webcam. It might be worth checking for traffic jams before leaving your office for an appointment and the website works perfectly.
Chevvy, fuel card offer
UAE Chevrolet dealers Al Yousef and Liberty Automobiles are offering a pre-loaded Dhs1,500 CashPlus Card with any Chevrolet model bought before the end of December. The card can be spent on anything at ENOC or EPPCO service stations.
