Sharjah Auto Show this week
The Seventh International Automobile Show will be held at the Expo Centre in Sharjah this week from November 23-27. Among the many car makers taking part will be Al Futtaim Motors with a full range of saloons and 4x4s from Toyota and Lexus.
2005 Honda CR-V unveiled
The 2005 Honda CR-V 4x4 is to be released by Trading Enterprises in the UAE this season. The exterior has been given a major facelift, consisting of a new grille, headlights, front and rear bumpers and rear lights. For better stability and enhanced styling, the CR-V is mounted on 16-inch wheels, now standard on this model and employs the new 2.4 DOHC i-VTEC engine which produces 173 bhp.
High-tech Range Rover Vogue
Land Rover has launched the new Range Rover Vogue featuring Venturecam technology, a wireless instant relay camera, located in the front passenger side facia of the vehicle, which transmits a real time, colour picture back to the Touch screen, from where it is controlled. The Range Rover Vogue comes with a superb Harman Kardon sound system with 14 speakers.
All-new Volvo S40 in UAE
The all-new Volvo S40 has arrived in the UAE showrooms of local agents Trading Enterprises. There are four trim levels available, up to 220 bhp and an innovative floating console, plus an Intelligent Driver Information System. This compact saloon starts from Dhs89,990.
Mideast auto demand revs-up
The Middle East is one of the world's most dynamic automotive markets, leading manufacturers told The Daily Star. At this week's Lebanon Motor Show, over 400 models from 68 producers are showcased. The UAE leads region car sales with an annual demand estimated at 70,000 vehicles.
Mercedes, new sales director
DaimlerChrysler has appointed Johannes Fritz as Director of Sales and Marketing for Mercedes Car Group. He was previously General Manger of Jeep operations in Turkey and replaces Steffen Baumann, who has returned to Stuttgart to take up a post as head of the Iranian projects.
Mini driving and racing challenge
Mini is calling on all Mini enthusiasts to come to a racing event in Dubai at the parking area on Sheikh Rashed Street next to Sana Fashions on Thursday from 6pm. There is the opportunity for participants to win prizes demonstrating their driving skills in the Mini. Experienced instructors will be on hand for a training programme.
Peugeot 407, new standards
The new Peugeot 407 claims to set new industry road holding standards with its front-end assembly, double aluminium triangle. Safety features include up to nine airbags, ABS and ESP with wheel-by-wheel braking. UAE agents are Swaidan Trading and Omeir bin Youssef.
Volvo S80, special purchase
UAE agents Trading Enterprises is running a special purchase offer on the luxurious S80 saloon from Dhs131,990. There is also zero-interest, no down payment, finance available from Dhs2,230 per month with an optional final payment of Dhs65,995.
Ford, GM, anti-rollover for 4x4s
Ford and General Motors will offer anti-rollover equipment as standard on their 1.8m 4x4 vehicles from next year in a major upgrading of safety technology, reported AFP from Detroit. The US manufacturers announced the move ahead of possible new US regulations.
Sharjah Auto Show Nov 23
Sharjah's seventh International Auto Show will open on November 23 at the Sharjah Expo Centre. The five-day show will feature a line-up of some of the world's top car manufacturers. Several major regional launches are also expected at the event.
300C, unprecedented demand
Unprecedented worldwide demand for the new 300C has lead the Chrysler Group and Magna Steyr to new a manufacturing agreement for the vehicles for European and rest-of-the-world distribution, including the Middle East. Since the introduction of the Chrysler 300C in markets outside of North America, demand is far beyond our original projections, said officials.
New Fords, Lebanon Motor Show
Ford will make its presence felt at the Lebanon Motor Show 2004 by unveiling two world-beating nameplates. The all-new 2005 Ford Mustang and the 2006 Ford Focus are set to wow visitors to the high profile automobile exhibition. Agents Auto Levant is committed to major investment in the brand, and plans to open an integrated showroom complex.
Nissan sales up 4pc
Nissan said GCC sales rose by 29 per cent last month to the highest level since 1998, though declined to provide the actual figures. For the first nine months of 2004 sales are up by four per cent. New models like the 2005 Patrol and Altima saloon have contributed, said officials.
Agents prepare for new CLS-Class
Over 100 regional staff from Mercedes-Benz distributors in the Middle East, the Levant and Pakistan have taken part in a six-day training program for the CLS-Class four-door coupe that arrives in the region in mid-November. The CLS 350 is powered by a newly developed V6 with 272 bhp while the CLS 500 has a 306 bhp eight-cylinder unit, and both have a new seven-speed automatic transmission.
