Rod's Ferrari on sale in Dubai

A Ferrari F50 that formerly belonged to Rod Stewart has gone on sale at the House of Cars in Dubai, reported Gulf News. The seven-year old supercar of a superstar rockets from 0-100 kph in 3.9 seconds and has a V12, 4.7-litre engine. Rod's name is clearly visible on the documentation. There is only 4,800km on the clock, as the car was used for shopping in Essex.

Mercedes, charity donation

For any new or used Mercedes bought during Ramadan, UAE distributor Gargash Enterprises is giving Dhs500 to the Rashid Paediatric Therapy Centre in Dubai. There is also a prize draw with a one in 500 chance of winning a new Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class before it goes officially on sale in the region.

Rexton 2005, now in UAE

Dubai's National Auto is now offering the Rexton 2005 4x4 powered by a Mercedes 3.2-litre engine delivering 220 bhp through electronic T-Tronic transmission. This seven-seater has rear air-conditioning, LED dashboard, power windows, ESP, ABS and dual front and side air bags.

AD installs 105 more radars

The Abu Dhabi Police has announced the installation of 105 more radars on highways leading into the UAE capital. Police recorded a strong decline in road accidents on the Al Ain to Dubai highway last year after the installation of radars, and hope to repeat the experience.

MHD opens used car showroom

Mohsin Haider Darwish, Oman's sole importer of Land Rover, Rover, Jaguar and Volvo vehicles, has launched an approved used car facility next to its Azaiba showroom. The used car division is accepting trade ins from customers buying new cars, and also offers extended warranties, service checks and full valeting.

Budget offers Ramadan deals

Budget Rent-A-Car in Bahrain is offering second hand cars for sale at discounted prices in celebration of the holy month of Ramadan. The offer is available from the company's Sitra showroom, and will expire at the end of Eid. The company says the purpose of the offer is to reduce stock levels and to reward loyal customers.

Cadillac celebrates double award

Two models from General Motors' luxury Cadillac division have been nominated for the first ever World Car of the Year award. The Cadillac SRX sports utility vehicle and the XLR sports roadster will now be among 32 nominated vehicles to be tested by a panel of journalists. The panel will be assessing the vehicles' engineering quality, and the award will be presented in Canada in February.

Egypt, Nissan plant mid-2005

The first phase of the new USD100m Nissan plant in Egypt is to be inaugurated by mid-2005. In June Nissan announced that it would buyout the assets of the plant near Cairo which was previously owned by its local agents. Vehicles built in Egypt will benefit from low tariff arrangements with neighbouring countries.
