Outlander 2005, MIVEC engine
The Mitsubishi Outlander 2005 boasts higher torque at low rpm ranges from its 2.4-litre, 16-valve SOHC engine fitted with Mitsubishi Innovative Valve Timing Electronic Control System and higher output for better pick-up in the higher ranges. UAE distributor is Al Habtoor Motors.

Gargash Enterprises is continuing its promotion of the Mercedes S 280 as the most economical S-Class ever with prices from Dhs199,000. This luxury saloon has a smooth V6, 204 bhp engine, and all the usual features of a car in this class plus the unique prestige of Mercedes.
Chevvy, Ramadan free service
UAE distributor Al Yousuf Motors is offering a full free service for 40,000km or two years, plus an extended three-year or 120,000km warranty, on all Chevrolet models sold during the Holy Month of Ramadan. There is also a special offer of three per cent insurance on the Lumina SS.
2005 Nissan Pathfinder on sale
UAE agent Arabian Automobiles has announced the arrival of the 2005 Nissan Pathfinder 4x4 with award-winning VQ 305-litre, 240 bhp engine, premium styling and 17-inch alloy wheels. The interior has also been extensively upgraded from the 2004 model.
Chrysler 300C fine for CEOs
The top-of-the-range Chrysler 300C, which is due to arrive in the Middle East shortly, has been listed in a US survey of professional cars as one CEOs can drive without howls of protest from staff. In the US the car costs USD75,000 while it will retail in region for around USD40,000.
Peugeot, new RAK showroom
Peugeot agents Swaidan Trading has opened a new showroom in Ras Al Khaimah. The inauguration ceremony coincided with the launch of the 407 model, an upper mid-range saloon. The new facilities include the latest service facilities for customers.
Dubai rewards good drivers
The Caltex Roadstar campaign to reward good drivers is running this week with Dubai Police on the look out for good traffic behavoir. Motorists may find themselves pulled over and given a cash prize! Gulf News and Radio 99.3 are also sponsoring the campaign, now in its sixth year.
Ford, year-end special deals
Ford UAE dealer Al Tayer Motors is offering special year-end prices on all models and 50:50 finance so that you pay only half for two years. The Focus is from Dhs38,999, Mondeo from Dhs49,999 and the Crown Victoria from Dhs69,999. There is a three year or 60,000km warranty and three years of roadside assistance.
GM showcases military vehicles
General Motors showcased a range of vehicles with police and military applications at Milipol Qatar 2004, an exhibition of equipment for armed forces and emergency services. GM vehicles on display included the Chevrolet Lumina car and Chevrolet TrailBlazer, Chevrolet Silverado, Chevrolet Tahoe and Chevrolet trucks and vans for ambulance and cargo applications.
Hyundai launches Santa Fe
Hyundai has launched the 2005 model of its Santa Fe 4x4 in the UAE at a special price of Dh59,900. The off-roader comes with a 2.7-litre V6 engine, 24 valves and a range of other features.
GMC launches Envoy XL 4x4
GMC has launched the Envoy XL 4x4 in the Middle East. The vehicle shares some technology with Chevrolet's rival 4x4, the TrailBlazer EXT, including the new Vortec Gen IV 5.3-litre V8 engine. GMC and Chevrolet are both owned by General Motors. Both 4x4s feature GM's innovative Displacement on Demand technology.
Chevrolet, 2005 TrailBlazer
Chevrolet has launched the TrailBlazer EXT 4x4 in the Middle East. Chevrolet says the 2005 TrailBlazer EXT boasts enhanced features, including the new Vortec Gen IV 5.3- litre V8 engine, equipped with General Motors' Displacement on Demand technology. The improvements will help TrailBlazer compete in the increasingly competitive 4x4 sector.
Researchers unveil smart car
UAE University and IBM Middle East unveiled a prototype of a car safety device that can send voice alerts to the driver via 'smart box' technology. The technology can alert drivers when they are passing the speed limit on a particular street, and link up with police stations to issue fines for speeding offences.
Trainees complete auto course
Some 200 Saudi nationals graduated from the Saudi-Japanese Automobile Institute, after studying courses in auto servicing. The Jeddah-based institute aims to make Saudi youth technically qualified in car maintenance. SJAI officials said there was strong demand for qualified automotive engineers in the Kingdom.
Enoc signs 15-year Avis deal
Emirates National Oil Company has signed an exclusive 15-year deal with Avis UAE to provide the car rental group with all lubricants for its fleet, include luxury and chauffeur drive services. The contract, with Enoc subsidiary Epcco Lubricants, will cover supplies for Avis's daily and short term car rentals as well as long term leasing and bus services.
