BMW models sold out in AD

BMW's super performance cars, the M5 and M6 have sold out in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, reported Gulf News, despite a 15% rise in list prices during the first half of the year. Abu Dhabi Motors said that there are now long waiting lists for deliveries of these high-end models.

Auto Parts Re-export Show

The Auto Parts Re-export Show, which claims the title of the Middle East's only dedicated trade event for the automotive re-export business, opens at Expo Centre Sharjah today. The three-day event features 100 companies with national pavilions from the US, Taiwan, Turkey, and Iran.

Child safety in danger

Many parents in the UAE fail to secure their children in cars and allow them to roam around, which is extremely dangerous in the event of an accident, Dr. John Guy of the Sheikh Khalifa Medical Centre in Abu Dhabi told Gulf News. He said children are like flying missiles in an accident.

Audi A8 in UAE

Audi distributor for the UAE, Al Nabooda Automobiles, is now selling the new Audi A8 3.2 FSI. The A8 is powered by a six-cylinder engine developing 260 bhp, 40bhp more than its 3.0-litre predecessor. Sales come with a three-year unlimited warranty and a three-year or 10,000 km free service.

BMW sees the light

BMW will make available its headlight enhancements on selected models in the Middle East from October 2005. Night Vision provides earlier detection of objects from a greater distance than standard lights, while High-Beam Assist automatically sets the Bi-Xenon headlights to the optimum range and brightness depending on traffic movement.

Hertz, Peugeot lease plan

Hertz UAE has introduced a new long-term lease plan for a range of Peugeots. Three-year leases taken out until 15 October will cost from $350 per month and include 24-hour backup and support service. The offer applies to a range of models including the 206, 206cc, 307 and 407.

MB, IWC launch CLS 55 AMG

Mercedes Benz and Swiss watch manufacturer IWC Schaffhausen have introduced the IWC Ingenieur Mercedes-Benz CLS 55 AMG into the Middle East. The limited edition car has a 5.5-litre supercharged V8 engine and comes with special equipment detail, which includes a redesigned instrument cluster in line with the new IWC Ingenieur AMG watch. Only ten of the four-door coupes will be available in the Middle East.

S-Class, top luxury seller

More than 3,500 Mercedes S-Class cars will have been sold by the end of 2005, said sales and marketing director Johannes H. Fritz. The latest version will be launched at the Frankfurt International Motor Show but more than 2,600 have already been pre-ordered in the Middle East. This makes the S-Class the region's best selling luxury car, a title it has claimed for a decade.

Audi 4x4 debut Q2 2006

Audi's much awaited entry into the 4x4 market, the Q7, will arrive in the GCC in Q2 next year. The manufacturer promises that the Q7 will be a tough competitor for the Porsche Cayenne. Middle East owners will be offered a choice of 4.2-litre V8, FSI or 3.0 TDI six-cylinder engines.

New Chevy Aveo this month

The new-style Chevrolet Aveo will be rolled out in the UAE this month after a make-over by Giorgetto Giugiaro's Italdesign studios. Prices will range from Dhs35-43,000, which includes the usual General Motors' three year or 60,000km total warranty and road assistance.

Car plate sales raise $59m

Dubai has raised $59m from the sale of prestige car number plates since sales began in June 2001, reported the Dubai Traffic Police. Yesterday's sale brought in a further $550,000 with the three-digit number 991 selling for $27,000.
