Abu Dhabi watches speeding

The Traffic and Licensing Department of Abu Dhabi Police has added 84 more traffic radars on the emirate's roads. The radars have been placed on external roads of both the western and eastern regions. Abu Dhabi recently increased speed limits on some highways from 120km/h to 160km/h and 140km/h under a pilot project to improve road networks.

Audi sales up 59%

Audi Middle East sold 1,513 cars in the first six months of 2005, representing a 59% increase over sales in the corresponding period last year. The luxury car manufacturer is looking to strengthen its market position in the region with the upcoming launch of the Audi Q7, SUV, RS4 and Le Mans models.

Qatar traffic blitz

Qatar's traffic department recorded more than 1,200 traffic violations in the first two days of a nationwide road safety campaign aimed at reducing fatal accidents, according to a report in Gulf News. A total of 111 people have died in traffic accidents since January this year.

Gargash, HSBC, MB S 280 offer

Gargash Enterprises, Mercedes-Benz distributor for DaimlerChrysler in Dubai, Sharjah and the Northern Emirates, is selling the MB S 280 as part of a finance deal with HSBC, with prices starting from $54,233 at a 3.5% interest rate for up to five years. The S 280 is powered by a V6, 204bhp engine, making it the most economical S-Class ever produced. The offer runs to 31 August.

Mercedes sees infrared

The latest Mercedes-Benz S-Class, due to be introduced at the Frankfurt International Motor Show in September, comes with a night view assist system of infrared beams in the headlamps and a camera on the windscreen. The system gives a much greater range of vision than conventional low-beam headlights, according to a statement.

Budget intalls GPS

The StreetPilot 2610, a touch screen system that features malls, ATMs, hotels, petrol stations and tourist attractions, is designed to help visitors and new arrivals navigate around Dubai. Volvo reports 41% upswing

UAE agents for Volvo, Trading Enterprises, say it has increased sales of Volvo cars by 41% for the first seven months of 2005. The Swedish car manufacturer has reported a big demand for the XC90 and S40 sedans, and recently launched the V8 and V50 models. No specific sales figures were provided.
