The biggest car show in the Middle East will be held December 12-14. The two-yearly Dubai Auto Show is expected to be the largest yet, and will feature all the major manufacturers and their latest models. This year auto sales have boomed in the Middle East thanks to the same high oil prices which have depressed sales elsewhere.

Nissan Middle East says GCC sales topped 100,000 units for year ended 30 September 2005. Year-on year sales are up 37.8% in Saudi and 44.3% for the remaining GCC countries combined. Nissan has introduced a range of new vehicles to the Middle East in the past 18 months, including the 350Z, Altima, Armada, Murano and the Infiniti luxury line-up lead by the FX35 and the G35 sedan and coupe.

Bahrain is denying speculation that Dubai's newly announced Formula One theme park is a threat to its own grand prix. Martin Whitaker, general manager of the Bahrain track, referred to the security of a long term contract between Bahrain and F1 owner Bernie Ecclestone. Bahrain is likely to open the 2006 F1 calendar in March next year.
Mercedes-Benz will unveil its new fuel cell drive vehicle, the F 600 Hygenius, at the Tokyo Motor Show. Powered by a zero-emission fuel cell drive the compact-class car consumes the equivalent of 2.9 litres of fuel per 100kms and has an operating range of more than 400kms. The company is aiming to bring the fuel cell drive up to full maturity by 2015, according Dubai Sales and Marketing Director, Johannes Fritz.

UAE Kia distributor Al Majid Motors is now selling the new KIA Rio five-door hatchback and its four-door compact sedan. The new model Rio has a longer wheelbase, a wider track, and a 1.4-litre 16-valve engine which generates more horsepower than its predecessor. It comes with central locking, electric windows, height-adjustable driver's seat with armrest, and a range of options.

Dubai Police have launched a campaign against the illegal tinting of car windows, reported Gulf News. Tinting of windows by up to 30% by all nationalities is allowed in the UAE but tinting beyond that level inhibits the ability to see through windows at night.

Nissan says it sold a total of 342 Infiniti cars in the UAE in the six months since launching in December 2004, 80% ahead of target, and claims the Infinity has been the fastest growing luxury brand in the country for the past two years. Five models are available in the Middle East: the 2005 Q45 luxury sedan, QX56 SUV, G35 sports sedan, G35 sports coupe and the FX35 premium crossover SUV.

General Motors Middle East continues to increase regional sales, delivering 30,702 units in Q3 2005, up 33% over the corresponding period last year. The Saudi and Kuwait markets dominated regional deliveries and experienced increases of 79% and 68% respectively. The Chevrolet Caprice and GMC Suburban are the top selling models.
The Mercedes-Benz M-Class has received the maximum five-star rating for crashes in US-NCAP testing. The luxury SUV has a strong passenger compartment, a comprehensive set of airbags, belt tensioners and belt force limiters. The car's Pre-Safe anticipatory occupant protection system deploys in the event of potential collision.
