UAE Kia distributor Al Majid Motors says its sales of Kia vehicles have has increased by 67.9% for the first nine months of 2005, including a 118% year-on-year increase in September. The new Cerato and recently launched Rio made up 40.6% of sales.

DaimlerChrysler Middle East sold 38 Maybach supercars last year but expects to sell 50 this year. Sales should be boosted by the arrival of the new Maybach 57 S which makes its debut at the Dubai Motor Show in December. Thanks to the biturbo technology and an air/water intercooler, the 5980 cc V12 engine develops an impressive 612 bhp. Acceleration from standstill to 100 kph is in just five seconds.

The Dubai Police General Traffic Department has reported a 50% jump in accidents involving injuries or fatalities since the start of Ramadan. This meant that there was one accident every two minutes during the first three days of the holy month due to the effect of fasting on driving habits, said officials.

UAE distributor Gargash Enterprises sold 116 Mercedes-AMG models last year but expects to finish this year with 170 sales. The group said prospects for 2006 are even better with the arrival of the new ML63 AMG which has a 510 bhp engine, the most powerful in the world for its class.

The BMW Performance Centre in Bahrain will award three scholarships worth $50,000 each to young drivers at the conclusion of a four-day trial taking place at the Bahrain International Circuit from 27-30 October. The Formula BMW Scholarship winners will receive 12 months of professional driver training.
Nissan Motors will spend close to $614m to upgrade plants in Japan as it prepares to release new models and increase exports of its Infiniti vehicles, according to a report in the Nihon Keizai Shimbun newspaper. The company says it will introduce 28 new models worldwide under a three-year plan.
Saab has started rolling out its 9-3 SportCombi in Middle East showrooms. The sporty five-door has a choice of five turbocharged engines, led by the 2.8-litre V6 Aero model which turns out 255 bhp. Saab says it has increased the 2005 production target by more than 30% to 20,000 cars, in order to meet strong global demand for the vehicle.
Gargash Enterprises has opened a sales centre dedicated to the complete range of Mercedes-AMG high performance vehicles. The 1,250-sqft area at the company's Sheikh Zayed Road showroom is an opportunity to maximise sales for the expanding range of Mercedes-AMG vehicles, according to GM Richard Barber. Gargash is targeting double-digit growth in 2006, with the arrival of the ML63 AMG expected in Q2.

Bahrain Police will come down hard on drivers speeding home to break their fast, after a string of deaths last Ramadan, reported Gulf Daily News. Traffic director-general Colonel Hassan Isa Al Sameem said accidents near or during Iftar resulted in five deaths and 39 serious injuries, as well as 123 small accidents, last Ramadan.
Infiniti agent in the UAE Arabian Automobiles is selling the G Sedan for 0% interest finance for two years, two years or 35,000 km free service, and 24-hour roadside assistance. The G Sedan is powered by a 3.5-litre V6 engine, has sport-tuned suspension, leather seats, and ABS, EBD and TCS.
