Abu Dhabi Porsche dealer Ali and Sons is now selling the Porsche 911 Targa 4S all-wheel-drive coupe. Powered by a 3.8 litre, 355 bhp engine, the glass-roofed Targa hits 100km/h from a standing start in 4.9 seconds and has a top speed of 288km/h. Power transmission is via a six-speed manual gearbox or an optional five-speed Tiptronic S automatic.

The Porsche 911 Turbo has been named car of the year for 2006 by Autocar Magazine Middle East. The speedster beat off competition from 35 challengers. Cars were judged on quality of construction, as well as being put through a road and track test by a panel of judges.
Al Masaood Automobiles, the sole distributor for Nissan and Infiniti vehicles in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, is to display its entire range of Nissan and Infiniti passenger vehicles and SUVs at the 11th Abu Dhabi International Motor Show from December 18-22 at the Abu Dhabi International Exhibition Centre. Organisers are expecting more than 50,000 visitors to the event.

The VW Golf R32 has been adjudged the Best Sports Car at the 3rd annual Autocar 2006 Middle East Awards. The Autocar judges spent a few days putting the three shortlisted cars through their paces at the Dubai Autodrome before deciding on the ultimate winner. The four wheel drive R32 hits 100kph in 6.2 seconds and has a top speed of 250kph.
Hertz UAE has unveiled a rental deal which focuses on smaller car models. Anyone who rents a Toyota Yaris, or equivalent, for a minimum of seven days will pay Dhs92 per day for a fully insured vehicle which has undergone a 40 point quality check-up and is covered by a round-the-clock support service. Hertz has added a number of smaller cars to its fleet, including Peugeot 206s and Toyota Corollas.

Lieutenant General Dahi Khalfan Tamim, the Dubai Police Chief, has called for motorists to receive better training so that they understand roads signs and signals and recognise their significance, reported Gulf News. The chief was speaking after the horror smash on Sheikh Zayed Road which killed nine people. It is alleged the driver of the bus involved was driving recklessly despite the wet road conditions.

Nine people were killed on Dubai's Sheikh Zayed Road on Thursday morning after a speeding bus overturned, smashed through the central reservation and careered into the path of an oncoming minibus, reported Gulf News. Fifteen ambulances and two helicopters were required to ferry more than fifty casualties to hospital. The smash created rush hour chaos on the city's main artery; 26 people have been killed on Dubai's roads in December.

Jaguar has brought the XJ flagship Daimler Super Eight to the Middle East. The luxury sedan is powered by a 4.2-litre,400 bhp supercharged V8 engine mounted in a lightweight aluminium body. It rides on 18-inch Rapier alloy wheels, and is fitted with voice activated four-zone climate control, multi media entertainment system, and power adjustable rear-seats with folding worktables.
Samaco, the agent for Porsche in Saudi Arabia, has opened a new Porsche showroom in Riyadh, Arab News reported. Samaco, which has been selling Porsche cars in the kingdom for 25 years, says it is on an expansion drive to meet growing demand. Porsche Middle East and Africa has had a 17% increase in sales this year, the report said.

Japanese carmaker Suzuki is bringing its crossover SX4 car to Saudi Arabia through local dealer Suzuki Saudia. Suzuki is pitching the SX4 to young drivers and small families. It comes via two versions - the outdoor line with 16-inch wheels, wheel arch and side protection moldings, and under spoilers; or the urban line with a more passenger feel, the company said. The car will be available in January 2007.

Euro Motors, the importer for BMW Group cars and motorcycles in Bahrain, has signed a deal with Bahrain Limo Company. Under the agreement Euro Motors will supply Bahrain Limo Company with twelve diesel-powered BMW 730 LDs.
General Motors has appointed Liberty Abu Dhabi Automobiles as its authorised dealer for Cadillac in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain. The dealership has a new showroom in Umm Al Nar and a dedicated service and parts facility in Musaffah. It will open a new showroom and after sales centre in Al Ain in 2007.

Nissan Motor will launch a next-generation fuel cell vehicle in Japan and North America in 2010, as part of its Nissan Green Programme 2010, according to the Associated Press. Nissan says the engine will enhance fuel economy and reduce carbon dioxide emissions equivalent to diesel engine levels.
Al Jenaibi International Automobiles is to be the sole distributor for Rolls-Royce in Oman. The appointment of Al Jenaibi and a new dedicated showroom in Al Qurum follows an increasing demand for Rolls-Royce cars in the country. The addition of a new partner in Oman brings the total worldwide number of Rolls-Royce dealers to 78.
