Fastest car from Al Habtoor

Al Habtoor Motors in Dubai is now selling the Bugatti Veyron 16.4, which can accelerate from 0-100 kph in 2.5 seconds, making it the fastest car in the world today. The distinctively styled Veyron can reach a speed of 300 kph in 14 seconds.

Hummer H3 in high demand

UAE-based Liberty Automobiles says it has sold its first shipment of 2006 Hummer H3 cars, and nearly all of the second shipment which arrived in December 2005. It says there is a waiting list for cars extending to March 2006 due to high demand. No sales figures were released.

Dubai Transport taxis strike

Thousands of Dubai Transport taxi drivers refused to work on Monday to protest working conditions and salary deductions. Drivers returned to work after a labour affairs official gave an undertaking to mediate the issues by Thursday. Metro Taxi drivers held a similar protest last week in a dispute over rents, which was later resolved.

DaimlerChrysler, fuel efficiency

DaimlerChrysler is planning to show off the Dodge Caliber at the Detroit motor show, the first of a family of small cars that will be equipped with fuel saving technology. The car runs on a continuously variable transmission and a new four-cylinder engine developed through a joint venture with Hyundai and Mitsubishi.

Toyota aims at GM

Toyota is launching the latest version of its Camry, as well as a hybrid version for the US market, at the 2006 Detroit auto show which starts on 7 January. The Japanese auto giant, which is looking to overtake General Motors as the world's top car manufacturer, will also unveil a new Lexus LS sedan at the show.
