General Motors and Liberty Automobiles have started a club for UAE Hummer owners. Called the HUB, short for Hummer Base, the club will organise activities for members such as camping trips and desert challenges. It will be managed by Hummer owners.

The Koenigsegg CCX, claimed by its Swedish makers to be the world's most powerful and fastest production car, will soon be available in the Gulf. The CCX is the latest model in the Koenigsegg CC range, which comes with tighter lines and a more aggressive body. Its predecessor, the CCR, holds the production car speed record of 388km/h, the company says.
Saad Buzwair Motors, the Qatar dealership for Volkswagen, opened a new showroom on Monday. To mark the event, purchases of cars before 1 December 2006 come with free 45,000km or three year service including parts, free registration and three year road assistance.
Gulf News is holding its Friday Fun Drive, sponsored by Al Futtaim Motors - Toyota, on 8 December. The one-day 4WD route takes in sand dune driving and a trip through the scenic Hajar mountains. Participants can register at Gulf News offices between 9am and 2pm.

Arabian Automobiles has released three new Infiniti 2007 models: the FX crossover, the G Sedan and the M. UAE sales for the Infiniti are expected to total 2,200 units this year, a 37% increase on 2005, but Arabian Automobiles is aiming to make the Infiniti the number one selling Japanese car in Dubai and the Northern Emirates by 2009. A dedicated Infiniti showroom is being built on Sheikh Zayed Road.

Abu Dhabi Motors, the sole importer for BMW, Alpina, Mini and Rolls Royce in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, is currently displaying the vintage BMW 502 in its showroom at Umm Al Nar. The car possesses a 2.6-litre V8 light alloy engine and can generate 110hp. The 1955 classic is not for sale.

The British Embassy in Dubai has warned British expatriates that it won't intervene if any are caught drink driving during the Christmas period, reported Gulf News. Anti drink driving campaigns are typically launched in the UK during November in a bid to reduce the number of alcohol related road traffic accidents. An embassy spokesperson said there had been a recent jump in the number of drink driving arrests in Dubai.

Abu Dhabi's petrol retailer Adnoc Distribution has launched a service called Auto Care at its stations in the city, reported Gulf News. The first centre was opened at the Al Mushrif station on Mussafah Road, while two more will be opened at the Al Manaseer and Al Zafarana stations. Additional centres will be set up sahortly, with US firm Precision Tune Auto Care having been selected to run them.

Dubai Police is considering the use of satellites to control traffic in the city, reported Gulf News. The system would allow the police to spot speeding motorists, catch those entering no-entry roads as well as locate road traffic accidents and find stolen vehicles. The police is also planning to install a number of video cameras in a bid to crack down on offenders and catch speeding motorists.

Larbre Competition's French driver Frederic Makowiecki, in a Ferrari 550 Maranello, took pole position for today's MotorCity GT 500 FIA GT Championship at the Dubai Autodrome. Makowiecki edged out Fabio Babini of the Aston Martin Racing BMS, while Babini's fellow Italian and team-mate Fabrizio Gollin came in third.

Nissan is previewing its all-new Nissan Xterra at the Sharjah motor show, which runs until 18 November. The Xterra is powered by a 4.0-litre V6 engine connected to a five-speed automatic transmission, has four-wheel disc brakes with anti-lock and electronic brake force distribution. Safety features include Nissan's Advanced Air Bag System. It will be on sale in GCC countries in 2007.

The fifteen supercharged Range Rover Sports have been finished with identical outside and interior features and finishes.

UAE car dealership Al Futtaim Motors has put its whole range of Lexus vehicles on show at the International Automobile Show in Sharjah. It is previewing the new flagship LS460 in both the standard and extended wheelbase versions. The LS460 carries a 4.6-litre V8 engine with 8-speed automatic transmission. It will be available in the Middle East during Q1 2007. The all-new ES350 sedan and IS300 sports sedan will also be there.

AGMC, the importer for BMW, Mini, Alpina and Rolls Royce in Dubai, has ten BMW models on display at the International Automobile Show in Sharjah. These are the BMW 130i, 330i Coupe, 335i, 550i, Z4 Coupe 3.0, Z4 Roadster 3.0, X3 2.5, the 650i Cabrio, 750i Individual and M6 Coupe. The 314km/h Alpina B5 will be on view on the Boulevard. Three Mini models will be there: the Cabrio, the limited edition Checkmate and Cooper S.

HoNasser Bin Khaled Al Thani & Sons has opened its flagship Mercedes-Benz showroom in Qatar, according to DaimlerChrysler Middle East. The carmaker said the new showroom will accommodate all its models, including those from AMG, Maybach and McLaren.
