Car aftermarket segment worth $11bn
- The automotive aftermarket segment in the Middle East and North Africa region is valued at over $11bn per year, according to organizers of Automech Akhbar El Yom, a trade fair for vehicles and accessories being held at the Cairo International Fair Ground, Egypt, from June 5-9, 2008. Automobiles, automotive spare parts, accessories and components represent a multi million-dollar trade in MENA countries, which have the highest car-per-household ration in the world.

Ford builds 9-millionth Mustang
- Ford Mustang's January to April 2008 sales in the Middle East were up by 8% over the same period last year, according to a statement. The car also achieved a recent milestone with the completion of the 9-millionth Mustang, which will go to a dealership in Iowa, USA.

$2,500 car to be built in India
- Bajaj Auto of India is teaming up with the Renault-Nissan auto alliance to make and sell a car there with a price starting at $2,500, reported AP. The car, code-named ULC, will be made at a new plant in Chakan in India, with annual production capacity of 400,000 vehicles. Sales are scheduled to start in early 2011.

New Mercedes SL launched
- Gargash Enterprises has introduced to the market its 2009 Mercedes-Benz SL-class. Mercedes-Benz has modified its SL-Class line-up offering an entry-level model in the shape of the SL 280, developing 170 kW/231 hp.

- Plate 9 from the Abu Dhabi Police, has cost Dhs15.4m for an Abu Dhabi businessman in an auction held on Saturday, reported Gulf News. The plate number 9 was elevated to the third most expensive number plate in the world.

Mercedes-Benz up 34% in April
- Mercedes-Benz Middle East & Levant said its retail sales in April has reached 34% over the same month in 2007. The month's sales has made its first four months in 2008 up by 16% over the previous year.

Daimler to open Baghdad office
- Daimler AG, the world's largest truckmaker, plans to open an office in Baghdad by the end of the year because it is confident that situation in Iraq is improving, reported Bloomberg. The company will be establishing a corporate representative office in Baghdad that is not meant to directly generate sales in Iraq initially. Daimler has no forecast for when it might begin to sell cars and trucks in the country.
