  • BMW raffle at Qatar golf tournament

  • A brand new BMW 320 will be given to a lucky spectator at the Commercialbank Qatar Masters, which will be staged later this month at Doha Golf Club. The winning ticket will be drawn by the tournament champion after the prize presentation on January 25. The luxury car draw is being sponsored by Qatar Duty Free.

  • Rental car demand up 20% in Dubai

  • Rental car demand in Dubai has climbed by up to 20% in the past few months despite the financial crisis, Moried Al Taher, Chairman of Discount Rent A Car, told Emirated Today in an interview. He said the rise in demand was due partly to stricter rules that banks have implemented for car loans.

  • Renault launches all-new Symbol in GCC

  • Renault GCC has introduced the all-new Renault Symbol to the region. The car, which has the same suspension as the Clio II, marks the carmaker's fourth launch for 2008 after the Clio F1 team R27, Renault Sport 197 and the recent Renault Safrane launch. The Symbol is powered by a 1.4 16V petrol engine with four-speed automatic transmission.

  • Porsche Centre Bahrain breaks sales record

  • The exclusive Porsche dealer in Bahrain, 'Behbehani Brothers', Porsche Centre Bahrain says it broke its sales record by selling 312 cars in 2008. The company said it was just four years ago that it broke its 1st record ever selling their 100th Porsche.

  • Toyota forecasts heavy slump

  • Japan's largest car manufacturer, Toyota, which is also the parent company of the Lexus brand, has forecast its first operating losses in 71 years as a drop in sales across the US, EU and Japan hits margins. Honda also forecasts heavy drops in revenue.

  • Chrysler gets $4bn bailout

  • Chrysler has received a $4bn emergency loan from the US government, similar to one given to General Motors on the last day of 2008. With industry sales plummeting, figures are due for release on Monday, the US government has had to make the emergency payouts to allow manufacturers to continue to meet existing overheads and payment schedules.

  • Hanco car rental inks Benz deal

  • Saudi-based Juffali Automotive Co. has announced closing a deal with Hanco for Car Rental for 60 Mercedes-Benz vehicles, 50 C-Class cars and 10 S-Class cars. Juffali is the exclusive distributor and dealer for Mercedes - Benz passenger cars in Saudi Arabia.

  • Ford to offer self-parking car

  • Ford Motor Company said yesterday that it is developing a car that can parallel park itself. The new self-parking technology will debut as an option on the 2010 Lincoln MKS sedan and the new seven-passenger Lincoln MKT luxury crossover vehicle, the company said. The technology uses ultrasonic sensors on the front and rear of the vehicle, combined with electric power steering to angle and guide it into a snug parking space - all with the push of a button.
