Used-car sales plummet in UAE
Sales of used cars in Dubai and Sharjah have fallen substantially, according to Sanjay Singh, manager of Advantage Used Cars in Dubai. He said the luxury used cars business has been almost zero because banks are reluctant to finance such deals. A dealer at Al Aweer said since the banks have raised the minimum salary for used car finance to Dhs5,000, ordinary buyers cannot obtain bank loans.

Saudi rally driver to debut new car
Saudi Arabian rally driver Yazeed Al Rajhi is set to debut a brand new Peugeot 207 S2000 in the Qatar International Rally, round one of the 2009 FIA Middle East Rally Championship, from January 22-24. The Saudi driver won both the Sharqia and Kuwait candidate rounds of the regional series in 2008 in a Subaru Impreza. The Peugeot S2000 has been built, and will be run, by the Belgian Kronos Racing team, under the management of Marc van Dalen.

Motor show opens in Jeddah
The annual Saudi International Motor Show is opening today its 30th editiion at the Jeddah Center for Forums & Events on Madinah Road at 5pm and will continue till Dec. 31, Arab News has reported. The event is organized by the Al-Harithy Company for Exhibitions Ltd., which covers vehicles, motorcycles, auto parts, accessories and garage equipment.

Hybrid Mercedes to hit the Mideast
A hybrid Mercedes S400, unveiled at the Abu Dhabi car show last week, is expected to go on sale in the Middle East next summer. The company says it will get 30 miles to the gallon and be the first luxury hybrid in the Middle East.

Goodyear service centre opened in RAK
Goodyear's authorized dealer, Swaidan Trading, has opened the UAE's sixth Goodyear Super Service centre, in Ras Al Khaimah. The centre will offer a range of Goodyear tires for all vehicle types, plus provide services such as tire fitting, wheel balancing, wheel alignment and oil change. The company said more Goodyear service centres are planned for around the UAE.

Al Habtoor Motors in Dubai has reduced the prices on its entire range of Lancer Evolution X 2009 MY cars. The 5-speed GSR manual transmission model is now priced at Dhs159,000, the 5- speed GSR manual with Performance Pack, is priced at Dhs167,000 and the upgraded 5-speed GSR manual is now Dhs 173,000.
