Mahmoudia Motors has announced the arrival of the Jaguar XKR Limited Edition, a lightweight sports coupe produced exclusively for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) market. BMW reported growth of 5% year-on-year in Middle East Sales for 2008, and has unveiled plans for further regional expansion in Saudi Arabia and the UAE. Nearly 16,000 vehicles were sold by BMW Group in the region last year, with Iran recording the largest market growth in sales up 191% and Dubai recording the highest number of sales with 4,421, followed by Abu Dhabi with 2,463.
Porsche Centre Abu Dhabi, a division of Ali & Sons Group, has announced record sales of 1,100 Porsche cars in 2008, a 45% increase on 2007. The sales have increased across all models, with the Cayenne range dominating. Porsche Centre Abu Dhabi forecasts sales of 1,300 cars in 2009.

Banks in Qatar and the UAE have raised the minimum salary limit for customers seeking car loans. HSBC has introduced new rules in both countries that stipulate that all applicants must have a minimum gross salary of 20,000 dirhams ($5,500) or QR20,000 ($5,500) per month to obtain a car loan. This is double the 10,000 dirham and riyal ($2,500) requirement in November last year. The Doha Bank asks for a basic salary of QR7, 500 ($2,000) a month and for the applicant to have been employed by their company for two continuous years.
Mahmoudia Motors announced it has become the new exclusive dealer of Volvo Cars in Jordan. The Amman showroom is located on Arar Street in Wadi Saqra and is open six days a week from 8:30 a.m. until 8 p.m.
Audi Middle East said it sold 7,732 vehicles in 2008, compared to 6,380 in the previous year, an increase of 21.2%. With 2278 units sold in 2008, the Audi Q7 SUV remains Audi's best seller, followed by the Audi A6 and A8 with 1745 and 1215 units respectively.
Sales of Ford cars rose 30% in the UAE last year despite the global economic slowdown, the company said. Across the GCC, sales of the company's Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury brands grew by 23%, boosted by 40% higher sales of SUVs and trucks, the company reported.

Jaguar finished 2008 with sales of more than 65,000 cars - an increase of 8% over 2007 and one of only a handful of automotive brands to report a year-on-year sales increase, the company reported. In the Middle East, sales were up 35%, said Mike O'Driscoll, Jaguar's Managing Director.
Land Rover is to provide its LR3 class vehicles to Biosphere Expedition for its Arabian Leopard research project. The expedition takes place from January 18 to February 13 in Wadi Uyun, Dhofar. David Aziz, director, automotive, Mohsin Haider Darwish said: 'Land Rover LR3 vehicles will enable the Biosphere Expeditions team and all participants to access some of the most remote and inaccessible places in the Dhofar region of Oman.'

Renault GCC has introduced the all-new Renault Symbol to the region. The car, which has the same suspension as the Clio II, marks the carmaker's fourth launch for 2008 after the Clio F1 team R27, Renault Sport 197 and the recent Renault Safrane launch.
