Chery's Iran car deal feels pinch
Chinese banks' reduced cooperation with their Iran counterparts due to US pressure over Tehran's nuclear plans is affecting the recent carmaking deal between China's Chery Automobile Co and Iran Khodro, reported Reuters. New SL AMG has race start function
Mercedes-Benz Middle East is set to launch a new SL 63 AMG that includes a Race Start function. 'The Race Start function is similar to the system formally used on Formula One cars at the start of a race,' said Lee Boyle, Regional Sales Manager, Mercedes-AMG Middle East and Levant. 'It enables the SL 63 AMG driver to call on maximum acceleration, while ensuring optimum traction of the driven wheels.' The SL 63 AMG is the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 production model in its class.

Luxury car service launched in UAE
Supercarz, a new luxury automotive service, has been launched in Abu Dhabi. The company's executive director, Amir Abbas, said the tyre centres will offer state-of-the-art technology and service with a luxury retail ambience. Ten such outlets are planned across the Middle East over the next few years.

UAE licence plate sold at $14m
An Abu Dhabi licence plate has sold for a world-record Dhs52.2m ($14m) at auction. Saeed Abdel Ghaffar Khouri, 25, bought licence plate number 1, breaking the previous record held by his relative Talal Ali Mohammad Khouri, who acquired license plate number 5 for Dhs25.2m in September, said Emirates Auction Managing Director Abdulla Al Mannaie.

VW offers free service checkups
Volkswagen Middle East is offering Volkswagen car owners free vehicle check-ups by Volkswagen Service Clinic experts regardless of the model or the year of the car. Volkswagen Middle East aims to rotate the Service Clinic every two years across all 11 markets it covers in the region providing visual check ups and diagnosis for all models. The next Service Clinic will be carried out in Saudi Arabia with the Volkswagen partner, Samaco, from 16 to 28 February making stops in three different locations: Jeddah from 16 to 19 February, Riyadh from 20 to 24 February and Khobar from 25 to 28 February.
