Mercedes SUV gets new look
- Mercedes-Benz has launched the second-generation ML-Class. The suv, which has achieved sales of 300,000 worldwide since its launch in 2005, has a new front end with a re-profiled bumper, larger projector beam headlamps, a more prominent three slat grille, and new fog lamps. Changes at the back are more subtle with a new tail lamp lens design and a deeper bumper.

Women rule in Saudi car market
- Despite issues of women driving in Saudi Arabia, market watchers in the country said 15% of Saudi women are buyers in the car market, reported Arab News. Industry reports said women buy one in five luxury sedans. Aljomaih Company said about 480,000 new cars entered the Saudi market last year, 25,000 of which were sold to women. and is expected to jump to 25% in the first year that Saudi Arabia were to lift the driving ban.

Middle East to bolster Porsche sales
- Porsche expects emerging markets such as the Middle East to take up the slack in car sales as western markets suffer from economic crisis. The company is reducing inventory in the US, with an expected slow down in sales, but believes new models such as the Cayenne GTS will prove popular among buyers.

Mini Clubman launched in ME
- The Mini Clubman is being launched this month in the Middle East. With its split-door design, the MINI Clubman is reminiscent of its famous predecessors: the Austin Mini Countryman, the Morris Mini Traveller, and the Mini Clubman Estate, which were sold between 1960 and 1982. The Clubman's innovative door concept makes it a special five-door model, with the conventional driver's and front passenger's door supplemented by an additional rear-hinged door on the right-hand side of the car.

Record start for Mercedez
- Mercedes Car Group Middle East and Levant has had its best ever start to a year with deliveries for the first two months of 2008 up 556 to 3,179, over the similar period in 2007, the company reported in a statement. Sales for January rose 32% to 1,610, while deliveries in February were 1,569, up 12% on the same period last year. The figures come on the back of a record 2007 when deliveries of Mercedes-Benz vehicles rose seven% to 16,816. The UAE continues to be the largest market for Mercedes-Benz vehicles with Saudi Arabia running second.

Auto theft declines in UAE
- A senior UAE official said vehicle theft in the country is on the decline due to to effective effective measures taken by UAE customs authorities, reported Gulf News. Khalid Khammas, Executive Director at the Customs Compliance Division of Dubai Customs, said 6,556 cars were screened in the UAE in 2005, which led to the seizure of 460 cars. In 2007 only 16 cars were seized after the inspection of 3,098 cars. These figures show organised crime moved away from the emirates, he said.
