Al Tayer Motors marks 25th year

UAE automobile dealership Al Tayer Motors, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, has reported that it has achieved 100-fold growth since its inception. The company, which represents leading American and European automotive brands in the UAE, commenced operations with the signing of its first dealership agreement with Land Rover and Rover in 1983. Al Tayer is planning major network expansion with many more showrooms, body shops and after-sales centres in various locations including Mussaffah in Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah over the next two years, in addition to its existing facilities, according to a press statement.

Liberty wins Chevy deal in Sharjah

Liberty Automobiles Company has won the deal to supply 500 Chevrolet Epica cars to Advantage Taxi LLC, a Sharjah-based taxi operator franchised by Sharjah Transport Corporation. Advantage Taxi, a major unit of the transport division of Al Yousuf Group, will be adding the brand-new Chevrolet Epica vehicles to its fleet between November 2008 and January 2009, as well as replace the ones already in its fleet.

New Spyker based on LeMans racing car

Spyker is putting a new car into production that is inspired by its GT2 Le Mans racing car. Only 24 units of the the C8 Laviolette LM85 will be built. The car, which will feature V8 power and orange paint, will be displayed at the 2008 Jeddah Motor Show.

Suzuki sales up 40% in Lebanon

Suzuki Motors Corp has announced that it has achieved a 40% increase in sales in Lebanon during the first half of 2008 compared to the same period in 2007. Suzuki has credited the impressive sales performance to its successful market expansion strategy and the recently expanded model line-up. Of Suzuki's new line of vehicles, the SX4 has achieved the biggest jump in sales, according to a press statement.

GM sales up 37% in UAE

General Motors recorded a 37% increase in sales in the UAE in the first half of 2008 compared to the same period last year, selling a total of 11,972 units of its various brands: Chevrolet, Cadillac, GMC, Hummer and Saab, reported Gulf News. In the region it recorded its best-ever sales of 71,452 units, up 7% on the same period last year.

Chevrolet Traverse to go on sale in ME

Chevrolet has announced that the all-new Traverse is set to hit Middle East showrooms this December. The Traverse is a crossover that offers people-hauling and cargo-carrying capabilities typically found in larger SUVs - all delivered with better-than-expected fuel efficiency, according to a press statement. The Traverse's interior can be configured for seven or eight adults, including two front bucket seats, a 60/40-split second-row bench (three passengers) or two second-row captain's chairs (two passengers) and a 60/40-split third-row bench seat.

Mercedes sales up 20% in region

Mercedes-Benz Middle East & Levant sold 1,568 vehicles in August 2008, a 20% rise over the same period a year earlier, according to a press release. This figure continues the excellent performance by the brand this year with half year figures over 10,000 for the first time ever, the German luxury car manufacturer reported. Deliveries of the mid-range C-Class were up over 30% from 375 to 490 while the E-Class continued to maintain its leading status in its segement with deliveries up over 55% from 253 to 393.

Luxury cars set up office in Dafz

According to the Dubai Airport Free Zone Authority (Dafza), seven international automobile brands have set up shop within the free zone in recent months. Ferrari Middle East and Africa, Maserati Middle East, Porsche Middle East FZE, Spyker Automobielen, Audi Volkswagen Middle East, Isuzu Motors and MAN Middle East now have office locations in Dafz.

Audi Abu Dhabi posts 40% growth

Audi Abu Dhabi, represented by Ali & Sons Co L.L.C Motors Division, has recorded a sales growth of 40% for the first half of 2008, said a press release on Wednesday. The main contributing factors for growth were fleet sales, as well as the newly introduced Audi A4 and A5.

Mercedes sales climb in UAE

The UAE has maintained its status as Mercedes-Benz's largest market in the region with 112 more vehicles delivered in August compared with the same period last year, according to a press statement. Saudi Arabia continued to grow with deliveries up over 19% in August. Mercedes-Benz sales in the Middle East and Levant increased 20% from 1,303 vehicles in August 2007 to 1,568 vehicles last month.

Renault launches 'Customer First' initiative

Renault GCC has launched its first comprehensive customer care programme, 'Customer First', across the region. Customers wishing to purchase a Renault car will now receive 11 complimentary pre and post-sales services. Apart from the standard initial 1000km free service inspection and 24/7 roadside assistance, other services include a 100km test drive invitation with the option of an accompanying sales executive to answer questions and 3-years or 100,000km worldwide car warranty increased from the former 60,000km.

Chinese car 'Peri' debuts in KSA

Chinese family car the'Peri' has launched at the Al-Rassam Auto showroom in Riyadh. The sedan is being introduced simultaneously in Jeddah, Dammam and Riyadh, looking into the growing demand for small family cars. Around 5,000 Chinese cars were sold in Saudi Arabia last year.

Aston Martin eyes bigger ME sales

British car maker Aston Martin is hoping for bigger sales in emerging markets, with the Middle East as key target, to offset current weakness in the UK and United States market, Reuters has reported. Aston Martin is looking for a bigger market share in the Middle East as it has recently launched a partnership with Denmark's Bang & Olufsen, which has put its luxury stereos into new models. The firm sells around 300 cars a year in the region.
