  • GMC launches its first compact SUV

  • GMC's first ever compact SUV, the brand new Terrain, has been launched in the UAE. The five-seat terrain is aimed at those wanting to make the shift from a sedan to a compact SUV. It offers a long wheelbase, reduced front and rear overhangs and a wide stance to ensure optimum levels of interior space, increased comfort and a large loading capacity.

  • Rolls Royce sales up 50% in Qatar

  • Sales of Rolls Royce cars were up 50% in Qatar in 2007, according to Peter Schoppmann, regional director of the company for the Middle East. Following the unofficial launch of the new Phantom coupe on February 17, Schoppmann said there would be another product launch in 2009. He said the next 24 months are going to be very busy for the automaker with the coupe and the smaller Phantom scheduled for 2009, adding that following recent launches in Qatar, he was expecting an order bank of one to two years from customers anticipating the launch in Qatar later this year, reported Gulf Times.

  • Abu Dhabi Motors posts strong sales

  • Abu Dhabi Motors, exclusive importer of BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, announced its highest sales ever in 2007 with a 36% increase over 2006, the highest year-on-year growth in the Middle East for BMW Group, achieving 2,561 unit sales in comparison to last year's 1,890 units. Last year, Abu Dhabi Motors also achieved the third highest sales volume worldwide for Rolls-Royce, with more than 100% growth in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, and the highest sales volume in the Middle East, placing Abu Dhabi third behind only Beverly Hills and London.

  • Chery's Iran car deal feels pinch

  • Chinese banks' reduced cooperation with their Iran counterparts due to US pressure over Tehran's nuclear plans is affecting the recent carmaking deal between China's Chery Automobile Co and Iran Khodro, reported Reuters.   • Mercedes-Benz Middle East is set to launch a new SL 63 AMG that includes a Race Start function. 'The Race Start function is similar to the system formally used on Formula One cars at the start of a race,' said Lee Boyle, Regional Sales Manager, Mercedes-AMG Middle East and Levant. 'It enables the SL 63 AMG driver to call on maximum acceleration, while ensuring optimum traction of the driven wheels.' The SL 63 AMG is the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 production model in its class.
