  • India's car sales drop

  • India's domestic car sales growth slowed sharply in January from a year ago, clocking up annual expansion of 9 per cent, and analysts said only new models and cheaper loans were likely to fuel a pick up in demand, reported Gulf News. India sold 113,899 cars in January, up from 104,501 in the same month a year ago, when sales had jumped 24 percent, data released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) showed.

  • Alfardan sales up 25%

  • Qatar's Alfardan Automobiles announced sales growth of 25% in 2007. It posted a rise of 22% for its BMW 7 Series, closely followed by the BMW X5 with 21% increase in sales.

  • Al Saif Motors has expanded with two new showrooms in Riyadh to showcase exclusively Land Rover and Jaguar. The facilities also offer quick service area bays, fully equipped after-sales service facilities, VIP delivery walkways including a dedicated and private consultancy bay for women.

  • Rolls Royce sales soar in Mideast

  • Luxury car maker Rolls Royce has announced that its order book for Asia and the Middle East more than doubled in 2007, finishing the year at 20 billion pounds ($39.2m) - the same level as the total value of the Group's order book just four years ago. In the Middle East alone, orders reached 3.9 billion pounds. Worldwide, the car maker's order book increased by 76% to reach a record 45.9 billion pounds, compared to 26.1 billion pounds in 2006.

  • Spyker D12 Peking-to-Paris SSUV is unveiled in Qatar

  • The prototype of the Spyker D12 Peking-to-Paris SSUV is on display at the Nasser Bin Khaled Showroom in Qatar. The Spyker D12 Peking-to-Paris is a hand built, four-wheel drive, four-door, four-seater luxury super sports utility vehicle with a spacious interior and a high performance W12 500 bhp engine. The Spyker D12 Peking-to-Paris SSUV owes its name to the Peking to Paris race of 1907, known to be the most grueling race of all time.

  • Saudi to set up first car plant

  • Saudi Arabia, one of the world's largest auto markets, plans to establish its first car manufacturing plant in the eastern city of Dammam, reported The Hindu. The Saudi Authority for Industrial Cities and Technological Regions (SACTR) has reached an agreement with the Gulf Automobile Manufacturing Company to set up the plant with a capital of SR 375m. The factory will have a capacity of 15,000 cars which will increase to 300,000 when it is shifted to a new facility in Sudair.

  • Luxury car show attracts Saudi women

  • Although banned from driving, large numbers of women flocked to the third luxury car exhibition which opened in Jeddah on Feb.3. A range of the world's luxury cars were exhibited in this three-day event. Reports are saying that more than 1,500 luxury cars worth more than 4bn Saudi riyals are sold in Saudi Arabia every year. The Al Watan newspaper reported that women were seen everywhere in the exhibition halls checking out the latest models of luxury cars.

  • Mercedes reports record January sales

  • Mercedes Car Group Middle East and Levant have reported its best January on record with deliveries of 1,610 new vehicles, an increase of 32% over the same month in 2007. January sales were helped by the Mercedes-Benz flagship S-Class which rose to 614 from 541 units, and the C-Class, which saw its sales rise to 345 from 104, an increase of 232%.
