Suzuki Celerio takes 60% share of Saudi hatchback market

The Suzuki Celerio five-door hatchback has gained a 60% share of Saudi Arabia's compact car market, according to Suzuki Saudia, distributor of the car brand in the kingdom. Since going on sale in the country in May, it has become popular among young drivers and small and limited-income families, the company claims. 'The model practically sold itself as an environmentally-friendly and economical option for Saudi drivers," said Maher Al Nabawi, Deputy General Manager, Suzuki Saudia.

Body kit introduce for BMW

Abu Dhabi Motors, which sells BMW in the emirate, has introduced the Hamann Aerodynamic Kit for the BMW X6. The kit includes a sportive front skirt with integrated LED daytime running lamps, three part rear casing and a roof spoiler. Hamann-Motorsport is a certified specialist for BMW models.

Opel fate still unknown

The fate of General Motors German brand Opel is still unknown, after the company's board of directors declined to name Canada's Magna International as the winning bidder for the division, Reuters has reported. Instead, GM directors want to see what financing is available from the German government, in particular to back a rival bid by Brussels-based financial investor RHJ International, two sources familiar with the situation have said. A GM spokeswoman admitted that 'no decision was taken' at the board meeting in its discussions on Opel.

New Mercedes S-Class hits Kuwait

The 2010 Mercedes-Benz S-Class was recently launched in Kuwait at the Albisher & Alkazemi Company showroom, the company has said. The new S-Class will be available in Kuwait exclusively from Albisher & Alkazemi Co. - Authorized General distributors of Mercedes-Benz from August 20th onwards.

Hyundai moots Iraq car project

Iraq's Chamber of Commerce has announced that South Korean car manufacturer, Hyundai, has made a proposal to launch a car production facility in Iraq, Aswat al-Iraq news agency has reported. 'We will study the request, and then will file it with the National Investment Commission for approval,' said Jaafar al-Hamdani, the head of the Iraqi Chamber of Commerce.

Mazda3 available in Oman

Towell Auto Centre, Oman's exclusive Mazda dealer, has announced the arrival of the second-generation Mazda3 in the Sultanate. The new Mazda3 features a 16-valve, 1.6ltr DOHC SVT four-cylinder engine, with a 4-speed Activematic transmission. Available new features include cruise control and Multi Information Display (MID), a push button start and keyless entry system, dual-zone climate control, bi-xenon head lamps, 16 inch alloys, auto headlamps, rain sensing wipers and a new CD and MP3 player.

Nissan offers Ramadan deals

UAE-based Arabian Automobiles, the exclusive dealer for Nissan, Infiniti and Renault in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, has launched a special Ramadan promotion which offers buyers savings up to Dhs10,000 ($2,722) on the purchase of a new Nissan. Customers can now purchase Nissan vehicles with 0% down payment and a 4.5% interest rate. Finance is available through leading banks to customers with a minimum salary of Dhs5,000 per month. Additionally, current Arabian Automobiles customers are offered a free safety check, as well as a 45% discount on parts and a 15% discount on labour costs.

Mercedes to offer split screen tech

Mercedes-Benz has said that it will be the first company worldwide to offer split view technology in the front of a vehicle when the new-look S-Class is launched in the region this month. The new display, located in the centre console, allows the driver and front passenger to simultaneously view different content on the same screen. While the driver uses the map-based navigation system, the front passenger can be watching a film or music DVD. The manufacturer has provided the option of a remote control unit and headphones.

Saudi Foreign Affairs Ministry to get 132 BMWs

Mohamed Yousuf Naghi Motors, the importer of BMW cars in Saudi Arabia, has announced the signing of an agreement to supply the kingdom's Ministry of Foreign Affairs with 132 BMW 7 Series vehicles. The ministry has selected a combination of BMW 740Li models, the long wheelbase variant, and BMW 740i models, the short wheelbase variant, to be used by the kingdom's embassies around the world. The agreement with the Government is the largest of its kind for BMW in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the company has said.

ALJ buys Toyota Turkey stake

ALJ Lubnatsi Marketing and Sales PLC, a subsidiary of Saudi Arabia-based Abdul Latif Jameel Co. (ALJ), has bought 64.99% of Turkey-based Sabanci Holding's stake in ToyotaSA, in which it partnered with Toyota Motor Europe and Mitsui, Arab News has reported. Under the new deal, ALJ Lubnatsi will become the major shareholder in the Toyota Turkiye Motorlu Araclar A.S. (Toyota Turkey Motor Vehicles Plc) while 25% of the company will be owned by Toyota Motor Europe and 10% by Mitsui & Co. ALJ is the distributor of the motor vehicles of the Toyota Group (Toyota, Lexus and Daihatsu) in 12 countries including Japan, England, Germany, China, Egypt, Monaco, Morocco, Algeria, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Syria and Turkey.

Qatar finalizes VW-Porsche deal

Qatar Holding is planning to acquire 17% of Volkswagen ordinary shares, as well as 10% shareholding in Porsche Automobil Holding (PSE) common shares from the Porsche and Piech families, the company has announced after reaching a final agreement on Friday. Qatar Holding's overall investment commitment across all components has reached over EUR7bn. Porsche is said to establish research and development and testing facilities in Doha.

BMW has announced that the new 7-series will have internet technology, called BMW-Online. The new feature provides full internet access from the dashboard display or the rear passenger DVD screens. The service may only be accessed while the car is parked.

Al-Jabr Automotive, Saudi Arabia's exclusive distributor of Kia Motors, has announced its two-month summer promotion, which includes no down payment, no administration charges and no fees for registration and plates. The special offer also covers a three-year buy back guarantee, a five-year manufacturer warranty, free total insurance, full accident repair and five-year roadside assistance. The promotion is aimed at Ramadan and Eid Al-Fitr when Saudis usually make their new car purchases, the firm has said.
