Prof. Herrling met government and medical organisations from facilities such as Dubai Healthcare City and the International Medical Center in Jeddah.

Bahrain's Health Ministry has warned people to avoid a cosmetic that it fears may cause cancer. The product, Lucky 9, is a skin-whitening cream produced in the Far East. A Health Ministry spokesperson said health officials were working with Bahrain's Commerce Ministry to keep Lucky 9 out of Bahrain.
Bahrain's health ministry has launched a national breast cancer campaign. The campaign targets all women aged 40 years and above - some 45,000 people. Cancer is the second biggest killer in Bahrain, and breast cancer is the number one cancer killer among women.
Bahraini authorities withdrew two sexual potency drugs from pharmacies over health fears. Baiyee and YangGang are manufactured in China and sold as herbal medicines. But they were banned after they were found to contain Tadalafil, the substance found in the prescribed sexual potency pill Cialis.
Many pilgrims to Saudi Arabia will now have to produce yellow fever and meningitis vaccination certificates before being granted entry to the Kingdom, the Saudi Ministry of Health has decreed. Local pilgrims will be vaccinated in Makkah or Madina, but the entry rules apply to nationals of 32 African and 13 Latin American countries.
The UAE-based medical portal, univadis.md, has formed an agreement with Reuters for the provision of medical news. The Reuters news will now feed into the Web portal, which serves as an information resource for physicians in the UAE.

A survey of orthopaedic doctors in the Gulf, conducted by Novartis Consumer Health, has found that 88 pc of doctors believe that Gulf residents are at risk of arthritis in later life due to the sedentary lifestyles prevalent in society today. A further 80 pc of doctors expect Gulf residents to experience muscular and joint pain, again primarily due to lack of exercise. 96 pc of the doctors therefore recommend that people take up a regular exercise programme.
While the trend for expatriate nurses to head for jobs in Europe and North America has led to a shortage of medical staff in the region, eight UAE national women have bucked the trend to sign up for jobs in the Ras Al Khaimah Medical Zone. The emirate's Nursing Institute has just graduated a further 38 nurses, who will now be placed in local hospitals by the Ministry of Health.

ArabMedicare.com, a provider of online health information, has expanded its medical news service to provide coverage throughout the Middle East and North Africa. It will offer medical news content in both Arabic and English language.
Mashreqbank has provided special equipment to enhance the conference facilities of Khorfakkan Hospital, as part of the Dubai-based bank's Cause of the Month programme. The grant will provide equipment aimed at boosting the organizational efficiency of the hospital.
