Crane crash victims leave hospital

The two Indian survivors of an industrial crane crash which killed nine workers in Sharjah were discharged from the Kuwaiti Hospital after five hours, and have been detained in police custody for questioning, reported Gulf News. The public prosecutor has issued an arrest warrant for the engineer who assembled the crane.

Surgeons remove 800g tumour

Surgeons removed an 800g benign tumour from the lower jaw of a woman in Dubai's Rashid Hospital in a rare and delicate 10-hour operation. The 31-year old lady visited the hospital in mid-February suffering from a swelling that covered 80 per cent of her jaw.

Riyadh, first heart, lungs transplant

Surgeons at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital in Riyadh have successfully performed a heart and lungs transplant on a 32-year old woman from the UAE. This is the first time this operation has been performed in the Middle East. The donor was a clinically dead person from Dammam.

Crash victim, hand sewn back on

A team of surgeons at the Rashid Hospital in Dubai has sewn back on the hand of a man involved in a car accident in a complicated four-hour operation, reported Gulf News. Blood vessels, nerves and ligaments were reconnected to make the hand operational again.

Makkah, hospital admission row

Health Affairs in Makkah have set up an investigation into the refusal of the local Maternity Hospital to admit an African woman for emergency delivery, reported Arab News. She was transported to the hospital by ambulance, but the refused admission even though she was in labour.

RAK hospitals refuse old people

Ras Al Khaimah hospitals have had to refuse a number of requests to admit old peple recently, officials told Gulf News. They said this highlighted the shortage of capacity and the need for a dedicated home for the elderly. Officials added that the elderly tended to want to stay in hospital when admitted even when fit to leave.

UAE outlines insurance options
