A new flex pen will be widely available in the UAE within six weeks which makes life easier for diabetes sufferers, reported Gulf News. Previously the flex pen had only been available in a small number of hospitals. Patients say the pen is almost painless for injections.

A 26-year old Indian nurse suffering from TB meningitis is going back to India after hospitals in Kerala responded to a call for help from the Indian community in Dubai, reported Gulf News. She needs treatment for another nine months and physiotherapy.

A new system of triaging patients at the Accident and Emergency Department of the Salmaniya Medical Complex has been implemented, reported Bahrain Tribune. The new system means patients are triaged even before they go in for registration, eliminating queues. Chief Dr Nabeel Al Ansari said the waiting time for emergency treatment has been slashed to nil.
Tang has marked the holy month of Ramadan by equipping the Dubai Autism Centre with five new high-speed multimedia computers. The new computers, which will be set up in classrooms throughout the centre, will help learning, optimise use of instructional resources and aid teachers in occupational and speech therapy.

The British government has issued some good healthcare news for expatriate pet owners in the UAE. Animals that have been duly tested and microchipped can now be taken to the UK under the PETS scheme without need for the six months of quarantine that was previously required. The UK only permits countries that it deems free of rabies to join the PETS scheme.

Bahrain's Salmaniya Medical Complex will install two new kidney dialysis units at a cost of some USD530,000. SMC's Nephrology and Renal Transplant Centre said an additional 50 dialysis patients would be able to receive treatment with the addition of new machines, which are being funded by a Kuwaiti donor.
