Heart attacks, early detection

A new device that can test for a heart attack just 20 minutes after it happens has arrived in the GCC, reported Gulf News. The CardioDetect device has been studied on 100 patients in Saudi Arabia and allows early treatment, according to Dr. Mustafa Al Shamiri of the King Khalid University Hospital.

Breast cancer Walkathon

Hundreds of Dubai residents joined a 3.5km Walkathon for breast cancer awareness yesterday which was organised by the BurJuman shopping mall as part of the annual Safe and Sound Campaign, reported Gulf News. The campaign to alert women to the need for annual health checks is now in its sixth year.

Bahrain to host Arab eye group

The Arab Ophthalmic Association is to locate its regional headquarters in Bahrain. The group announced the decision at the start of its fourth Ophthalmological Congress. More than 200 eye specialists from the Arab world attended the congress, which was held in Manama under the patronage of Bahrain's Health Minister Dr Nada Haffadh.

Warning to Vioxx users

RAK court fines technician

A Jordanian anaesthetic technician has been ordered to pay USD20,000 for injuring the left arm of a Sudanese woman during an operation at the Saqr Hospital in Ras Al Khaimah, reported Gulf News. According to medical reports he failed to inject the patient correctly, injuring her arm.
