Surgeons at Riyadh's National Guard hospital are separating 15-month-old Polish twin sisters joined at the spinal chord. The hospital's highly specialised unit has already separated eight other sets of twins. More than 50 medical staff are involved, with Crown Prince Abdullah funding the operation.
Ras Al Khaimah is in the final stages of setting up a complaints system for patients unhappy with their medical treatment, reported Gulf News. Officials said all reported medical errors would be investigated in order to improve services available in the emirate.

The Dubai Department of Health and Medical Services is to increase rates for surgical operations from January 15, with prices from Dhs150 to Dhs7,000. The fees apply to both nationals and expatriates whether or not they carry health cards, reported Gulf News.

A new knee replacement operation that leaves half the scar of conventional surgery has reached the UAE, reported Gulf News. The Al Zahra Hospital in Sharjah will carry out the first non-conventional total knee replacements which replace arthritic knees.
